DIGITAL COMICS: comiXology announces Walking Dead sale

Press ReleaseBy Press ReleaseJuly 11, 20122 Comments6 Mins Read

    Press Release

As zombies, survivors and comic fans far and wide descend upon Comic-Con International ‘12 this week, comiXology – the revolutionary digital comics distribution platform with over 75 million comic downloads to date – is celebrating the annual event and the pending debut of The Walking Dead #100 by dropping the price on the first 99 issues of The Walking Dead comic series and offering three brand new limited edition digital only omnibus editions collecting #1-99 that will only be available for the duration of this sale. Now is your chance to read the original The Walking Dead ongoing comic book series from creator Robert Kirkman at a don’t-miss fantastic price.

The Eisner Award-wining The Walking Dead comic series was not only the #1 seller in graphic novels for 2011 — and is on track to retain the title again this year — but was also the top-rated basic cable drama of all time during season two of the hit AMC television series. Kirkman serves as both writer and Executive Producer on the TV series.

“You can’t walk the floor of Comic-Con without seeing some form of The Walking Dead , at this point it’s a pop culture mainstay, no doubt about it,” said comiXology CEO and co-founder David Steinberger. “I honestly don’t know of a better way to celebrate Comic-Con and the debut of the 100th issue of The Walking Dead then to have a sale and offer these unique limited edition digital only omnibuses that will only be available during the sale.”

All issues of The Walking Dead up through #99 will be half-off, as will the existing sixteen collections that cover first 96 issues of the series. In addition, for this week only, comiXology will be offering three digital only omnibuses that collect issues #1-99 — making it easier than ever to jump on board this series.

Last week, Skybound, The Walking Dead creator/writer Robert Kirkman’s imprint at Image Comics, and comiXology launched The Walking Dead 3.1 iOS app. This newly upgraded app’s smooth new design and interface not only enhances overall stability over the previous version, but it also increases the usability beyond the original 2.0 functionality. New advancements in the UI enables a near instantaneous launch, dramatically cutting down on the app’s load times and allows fans of The Walking Dead to start reading faster than ever before.

Based on one of the most successful and popular comic books of all time, written by Robert Kirkman, AMC’s The Walking Dead captures the ongoing human drama following a zombie apocalypse. The series follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who are traveling in search of a safe and secure home. However, instead of the zombies, it is the living who remain that truly become the walking dead. Season Two debuted with the highest premiere in Television history last fall and Season Three is expected to shatter that same record later this Fall.

    About Robert Kirkman

Robert Kirkman’s success and passionate advocacy for creator-owned comics led him to become the first person invited to become a partner at Image Comics since the company’s inception twenty years ago and he formed his own imprint there, Skybound, in 2010.  Kirkman is the creator/writer of the Eisner Award-winning The Walking Dead, long-running Invincible, all-ages Super Dinosaur, The Astounding Wolf-Man, and new title Thief of Thieves, among many others. Kirkman has earned the respect of the comic, writing and television communities and topped the New York Times bestseller list for graphic novels in 2011 and in April 2012, he took the top five spots on both the hardcover and paperback lists. He’s the creator/executive producer and writer of the hit television show, AMC’sThe Walking Dead , the highest-rated basic cable drama of all time in the U.S, also an international success in 120 countries and 250 million households. AMC is developing Thief of Thieves as a potential series with Kirkman serving as creator/executive producer and writer. www.Skybound.com is your destination for all news and merchandise for Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead and all Skybound titles.

Is this series worth the $75 investment to pick up the three omnibi and read through the first 99 issues? I’m a bit turned off by the lack of color and I’m not a huge fan of zombie books but everyone seems to love this series….

I’ve just ploughed through 99 issues in the last two weeks. I wish I’d waited for this sale! But it’s absolutely worth picking up, as long as you like character-driven books with a light sprinkling of plot and action.
