CRITICAL HIT: Official Character Designs – Day Three: Raaaaaaaaandus!

    Robot OverlordBy Robot OverlordJune 6, 2012Updated:February 10, 201425 Comments1 Min Read

Today we continue our look at the official Critical Hit Characters Designs by our good friend Thomas Perkins.

You may remember Thomas Perkins from his excellent work on Ben 10, Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Green Lantern, and of course, our Hero History of Kablamakus! Thomas approached us quite a while ago about providing art, and over the last couple of years, we’ve honed everything down to where we are happy to show off the first official character designs to you, our faithful Spoilerites and Critites.

All this week, we introduce a character and design to you. The third character in our pantheon of heroes of the Critical Hit Universe is the artificer who is out of time – RANDUS!

    Comment section below… use it.

If you didn’t get to see Orem, check out that awesome image, here.

And if you missed out on Torq, you can find that bit of ephemera here.

Comparing it to the Aldo-made miniature, his arm is far too small in this.

WOW I thing I need to go home and change something. Great Work MR. Perkins!

I think I just found my new background picture.

      • Thomas Perkins on June 6, 2012 11:21 am

        :D

    3. Matt on June 6, 2012 11:03 am

      Aww, where’s CrabSpiderGuy?

      • Stephen Schleicher on June 6, 2012 11:16 am

Look closer… it is right there ;)

        • Thomas Perkins on June 6, 2012 11:22 am

          Sneaky CrabSpiderGuy…. ;)

          • Matt on June 7, 2012 9:58 am

Hoho, completely missed him! Man, thought he was part of the scenery.

    4. Dallen on June 6, 2012 11:19 am

      Awesome!!!

    5. herebewonder on June 6, 2012 11:34 am

Wait, this guy looks to competent to be Randus. Maybe it’s his evil twin…the one that only rolls 20’s.

Randus rolls 20’s. Granted it is usually skills challenge initiative, but he does roll them.

    6. StellarLeader on June 6, 2012 11:44 am

I was expecting a more Nathan Spencer-like arm… this looks kinda weird, it seems to be twice the length of the other arm. I love CrabSpiderGuy though! Now I want to release it into the wild!

    7. Namos on June 6, 2012 11:45 am

Needs more arm-mounted healing needle gun :D

      These are all amazing!

    8. vistapa on June 6, 2012 11:52 am

Great Character desing Mr. Perkins, specially loved the look and feel of the robotic Arm and the green light effect.
A quick question, are the robotic arm’s spirals of “exelarchy of cogs” inspiration?

    9. Marco on June 6, 2012 11:58 am

Randus looks soooo mean :D! Fantastic!

    10. Praion on June 6, 2012 12:26 pm

Arm is way prettier than i would have thought

    11. Creigh Brigman on June 6, 2012 2:37 pm

I was imagining something more Steampunk. Still, excellent work Mr. Perkins
      .

    12. Galactoss on June 6, 2012 3:08 pm

My actual train of thought went something like “That arm looks too big for some reason… oh wait!”. Dim of me! Loving the pouches too, at least we know that unlike a lot of comic book characters Randus actually needs them.

    13. Forresst! on June 6, 2012 4:27 pm

Yay! Randus! Randus has always been my favourite. And he’s so well-drawn too!

Will there be desktop wallpaper-sized versions of these?

    14. Ensign Expendable on June 6, 2012 9:05 pm

This is my favourite one so far. I still prefer the Aldo miniature of Randus (in the same way that they say your favourite James Bond is the one you saw first).

    15. Robbie on June 6, 2012 9:27 pm

I love this take. It is has replaced Rick Moranis as my go-to Randus image :)

The proportions on the arm of mega punchiness are awesome…Reminds me of Big O!

    16. Ryan on June 7, 2012 1:42 am

Randus needs to start yelling “SHOWTIME!” before punching something.

    17. Brian on June 7, 2012 12:41 pm

Now I understand why he punches things so good.

    18. Locknestra on June 7, 2012 5:16 pm

      So. Much. Love.

I don’t have words to describe how awesome his “assistant” looks!

    19. Emilie on June 7, 2012 5:41 pm

It’s really pretty good. I always imagined (since he’s always described as being a little shorter than average) as having smaller features (skinnier in the face and neck, and not so broad in the chest. Still like it though. :)

    20. Triggernator on June 7, 2012 7:12 pm

I would thought the robot arm was freaking huge, thus explaining his ridiculously effective robot arm punches. Other than that very much my favorite Image so far
