SDCC’11: Quantum Mechanix to supply hero props to Warehouse 13 fans

Press ReleaseBy Press ReleaseJuly 21, 2011Updated:July 21, 20114 Mins Read

    Press Release

Quantum Mechanix Inc. (QMx) announced today that it is creating a new line of Warehouse 13 hero props for fans that will be exactly the same as those used on the popular Syfy series, which airs Mondays at 9PM (ET/PT) and is produced by Universal Cable Productions.

Licensed by NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products Group, QMx can guarantee collectors exact replication because the company has already been making the same hero props for use in Season 3 of Warehouse 13.

“For the most discriminating collectors, accuracy is everything,” said QMx CEO Andy Gore. “When the opportunity came along for us to make the screen-used Teslas and Farnsworths for Season 3 of Warehouse 13, we realized there would never be a better chance to guarantee accuracy and authenticity for fans as well.”

“Quantum Mechanix reproductions are so accurate, so authentic, and so well-crafted, that we now use them as our hero props!” said Jack Kenny, executive producer Warehouse 13.

Part of QMx’s Artisan line, the Warehouse 13 hero props are made precisely the same way as what fans will see on screen, with the same parts, build and paint process and often in the exact same shop.

“We decided to forego calling these props ‘replicas,’ because they aren’t,” Gore continued. “They aren’t as close to the real thing as possible, they are the real thing.”

The Tesla – a non-lethal electric gun – and The Farnsworth video communicator, both key props used by Warehouse agents, will make their debut at this week’s San Diego Comic-Con. Fans can get an up-close look at the QMx booth #2944. The Farnsworth will also include screen-accurate audio and working signal light.

As with all Artisan products, the Tesla and Farnsworth hero props will be handmade by prop industry professionals and will be offered in very limited editions. The most successful series in Syfy’s 18-year history, Warehouse 13 follows a team of government agents who work at a massive, top-secret storage facility in windswept South Dakota which houses every strange artifact, mysterious relic, fantastical object and preternatural souvenir ever collected by the U.S. government. The Warehouse’s caretaker Artie Nielsen (Saul Rubinek) charges Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock), Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly), young apprentice Claudia Donovan (Allison Scagliotti) and newcomer Steve Jinks (Aaron Ashmore) with chasing down reports of supernatural and paranormal activity in search of new objects to cache at the Warehouse, as well as helping him to control the Warehouse itself. CCH Pounder plays the Warehouse’s mysterious caretaker, Mrs. Frederic.

Warehouse 13 is produced for Syfy by Universal Cable Productions. Jack Kenny (The Book of Daniel) is executive producer and showrunner.
