    Major Spoilers Test Cast

We had to do a reset, and we didn’t record the second hour of the show, but again, this was all a test for something bigger coming down the pipe… providing we get enough recurring donations.

Well…. there’s no way to say this kindly…. but if I wanted to look at an old balding fat guy, I’d look in a mirror.

Seriously, though, if you were to go video format, is there any way to do it where you could have Matthew and Rodrego on screen while they are talking, too?

I’d really hate to see Major Spoilers go video though. As it is now, I can listen to the show while pre-flighting window and door brochure art or typesetting business cards, but if you went video I’d only be able to watch the show at home – and when Super Happy Anime Fun Time went video, they fell off my radar. I’m usually doing other things on the weekend and if I am going to spent time planted in front of the computer there are lots more…. um… stimulating things to look at than you fine fellows. :P

      Keep up the good work!

Well Scott… This clearly says it is a test, so what we shared here is not the final product. And since this was a live stream, for those who have been asking for it, it is more for them than those who are not. As far as seeing the other two co-hosts, Rodrigo is usually in studio with me, and since you are still relatively new to the site, you probably were not around when we did our previous live show and we did switch between cameras. So, bottom line, your mileage may vary, and enjoy the continued free content.

Will the MSP go all video? No. This is a live stream. You’ll always have an audio feed option.

I think it’s kinda cool that we don’t get to see Matthew: it keeps him somewhat mysterious. :D

And I have it on good authority that my speaking voice and my written “voice” are pretty damn similar, which is either a good or a bad thing, depending on how one looks at it. :D

It is new and interesting to see a video version of the MS podcast. I think the challenge would be to keep it interesting over time once the newness wears off.

Watch people talk to each other isn’t very compelling, especially if you only see one person. It has sort of a “what’s the point?”feel.

But if there are visual elements you can bring into it; something the audio cast could never truly capture, then that would be worthwhile. Either way, I agree with others that the audio podcast needs to remain and that seems to be your intention anyway.

Perhaps the one place where the video format could really shine is the Critical Hits podcast. Although there may be challenges with camera direction and including everything required to maximize the impact, I think many viewers would be excited to see a “live” D&D game happening right before their eyes.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there will never be a live cast of Critical Hit.

And to repeat… this is a test.. Do you really think if we were going to do a video show it would be just one person on the screen? Matthew, Rodrigo, and I collectively have 50 years of video production experience and we all know talking heads are boring. This was a technical test to test new features we have available to us.

If you want to know what else is going on, I suggest everyone get on board the complete Major Spoilers Experience. In the last video test stream I did a week ago, someone called in to ask where this was leading, and I did share some of where this is going. If you missed it… well… just keep watching the site.

Yes, I got that it was a test. You were clear about that. I think putting the word “Test” in the title may have been my first clue.

Why would there never be a live cast of Critical Hit?

It’s more fun and entertaining to have the show released on a weekly basis.

I agree that a weekly format is best. Is that not possible with a video version? Too much production time required maybe?

Yes. A lot of production required, and we don’t have the funding to do that.

Understood. I’m sure that would be a larger endeavor.

Still, it sounds like it’d be fun so I’ll keep dreaming. Maybe some government bail-out money will come in and you can use that. ;-)

I’m sure there are more people/businesses deserving of that money than we are. I’m just thankful there are those people who have become recurring donors to the site. If we could hit that mythical 100% buy-in from all the podcast listeners, we be set. Way things look right now, that 100% is a long long long long long way off.

This may be off-topic for the subject but I am curious about donations. I’ll post something on the forum instead.

But I agree that donations could make more things possible. Maybe you really could build Stately Spoiler Manor.

Critical Hit is entertaining precisely because it is NOT a real-time DND broadcast.

Hey Stephen! Thanks for posting this. I’m on the East coast and was halfway into my dreams of the Asgardian lady in “Thor” when this was going on so I missed it. How was the quality of the feed while this was live? I hope it was as good as this posting, because the quality was good, the video was clear, and the sound worked well and there were no noticeable dropouts or too much delay with Matthew on Skype.

I hope to not miss any future tests, and if I do I hope they will be posted. I enjoyed this “addition” to the Major Spoilers Experience. Love how this “site” has evolved and continues to evolve. Kudos.

Test or not, it was a heck lot of fun for me. :) I know what you mean about how talking heads can be boring, but after weeks of just listening to your voices, seeing your faces is kind of a breather. :)

But what I really love about the test is seeing Stephen’s shopping spoils. :) It really makes-up for the Want List’s long hiatus. :) I really loved that segment and was looking forward to it every week. We don’t have a lot of geek merchandise here in the Philippines you see, so the Want List became my slice of heaven. :)

Anyway, thanks for all your efforts guys! :) Lots of love from all of us Filipino fanboys! :p

For me the live-stream is more about the interaction in the chat room (shout out to sistermems35, XxDatrhxX, and that guy from newzeland) , and with the hosts and less about the “production” and that’s why i love this episodes.

I think that may be what is missing in the portion of the file posted. The second half after the Skype crash had call in after call in from some great friends from the past, and new friends who are brand new to the site.

I also enjoyed the “Theme Song” — it reminded me of the Family Guy parody of radio shows with their overdone title songs — which is exactly the reference I’m sure you were going for….

I think live feed is a wonderful option. You guys are fun enough as voices in the void. Seeing you while you talk to us con only be an improvement to an already terrific show. Matthew, to maintain that air of mystery you could always use a puppet to represent youon the show!!!!
