“First” X-Men First Class image arrives

    Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherJanuary 18, 2011Updated:January 19, 201124 Comments2 Mins Read

It’s been all over the Intardwebz today, and while it does look cool, there are many wondering if this first image of the cast of X-Men: First Class is the real deal, or an Adobe Photoshop joby.

Michael Fassbender as Erik “Magneto” Lensherr, Rose Byrne as Dr. Moira MacTaggert, January Jones as Emma “The White Queen” Frost, Jason Flemyng as Azazel, Nicholas Hoult as Hank “The Beast” McCoy, Lucas Till as Alex “Havok” Summers, Zoe Kravitz as Angel Salvadore, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique and James McAvoy as Charles “Professor X” Xavier. The film also stars Oliver Platt, Caleb Landry Jones and Kevin Bacon.

MSN.com had the image up first, before they took it down, only to show up moments later on the Daily Blam site with a full watermark all over it.  The image was then removed from the site with a message that reads “at the request of the studio.”

The thing that is most surprising about the image isn’t the hottie hot January Jones, but that the image is so damn small.  Surely if this were the real deal, someone would have a 240000 x 10000 pixel version  floating on their website somewhere  (like the Spider-Man image that showed tons of detail).  Interestingly, both Marvel and 20th Century Fox are quiet as… well as quiet as Marvel and 20th Century Fox can be.

Take it for what it is worth. If it is true, then go to town, but if it isn’t, remember the Intardwebz are the last bastion of truth in the world…

      Wow.

If that’s really it, what little interest I might’ve had in this movie has been officially extinguished.

The uniforms look really bad, why don’t the movie guys just go to conventions and hire cosplayers to help them out? They make some really good costumes and for the love of puppies stop adding extra belts/texture for no reason, making every costume into Batman’s or all black!

Is that Baltar(James Callis) on the left? This looks like bad photoshop, but god knows there have been bad costume designers. It looks like someone tore off Mystiques face and is wearing it like Hannibal Lecter. Jeez.

So, there’s only one actual X-Man from the first class? I don’t get it.
And I know how stupid it is to judge a movie from a single image, so i’m just gonna judge the image instead: This one picture looks really cheezy.

Yeah. Tough to believe this is an official leak. Everything looks a bit…off.

Actually, I like the uniforms. They are the original costumes, and the first hint this movie might be a departure from the black leather of last movies. Overall, I want to see more – but just one question: I thought this movie would show Beast before his blue-furred days. Did I miss something?

Azazel. Freakin-Azazel! They are really going to incorporate the single worst storyline in the history of X-Men comics into this already overcomplicated storyline. This is going to be Marvel’s answer to “Batman & Robin.” Just an utter disaster.

I don’t like Azazel either – why even acknowledge a Chuck Austen character? But I don’t think there’s any indication he’s a demon in this storyline. He’ll probably just be another mutant, and with Mystique in the cast, it just sets up for Nightcrawler’s birth. Still, I am a little puzzled by his inclusion as well.

Big mistake in choice of characters in my opinion. I only care a little about Mystique. Emma Frost and Beast I can get interested in. Everyone else I don’t care about. I don’t foresee this doing so well at the box office without at least one “iconic” X-men on the roster.

Fox & Marvel should just make a deal. Fox keeps Wolverine and Marvel gets back the X-Men so they can make movies again. Hopefully with people who at least like the original 5.

White Queen, Beast and Moira look good but the rest look either very wrong or I have no idea who the hell they are. There are so many things wrong with this that I don’t even know where to start. I don’t think I will start … I think I’ll just shake my head and say … another crappy Marvel movie is upon us.

You guys do know this is done by the director and screenwriter of “Kick-Ass”, right? I have just as many questions about the plot and characters, but I think it’s a little early to call this movie another “Batman and Robin” or “Elektra”.

Tsk, tsk. Such rage against what is obviously a homemade photoshop project, or at best, a pre production mock up.

That is not January Jones’ body. Period. Nor would a studio have Emma in such a generic white negligee in a promotional still.

I’m willing to go on record betting that those are not the X-uniforms (again, at best this is some sort of mock up).

Do those heads really fit their bodies? Look closely at McAvoy. Is anyone’s hairstyle reminiscent of the early 60’s?

As far as the characters chosen…Azael, Angel Salvatore and Havoc are WAY random, especially for a Cuban missile crisis era story. Alex Summers should not be older than Scott Summers.

I admit I was wrong. Those ARE the official uniforms from the movie:

So is that actually January Jones’ body? I’ve seen every episode of Mad Men and she always look like a stick on that show.

I AM ANGRY BECAUSE THIS IS NOT EXACTLY WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE. WHY DOES HOLLYWOOD MESS WITH PERFECTLY GOOD IDEAS AND NOT FOLLOW EXACTLY WHAT I WOULD HAVE WANTED OUT OF A MOVIE.

A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THIS IS WATCHMEN AS THEY CHANGED THE PLOT SO IT MADE MORE SENSE. THERE WAS NO REASON TO LEAVE OUT THE GIANT ALIEN CREATURE THAT SEEMED IDIOTIC AND INSTEAD SWITCH IT FOR DR MANHATTAN AS IT TIED THE TWO POINTS TOGETHER BETTER THAN THE BOOK DID. IT WAS A PART OF THE ORIGINAL CONTINUITY AND SHOULD THEREFORE BE KEPT NO MATTER HOW STUPID IT MIGHT SEEM.

HOLLYWOOD HAS MADE IT SO I WILL NEVER EVER SEE THIS MOVIE SINCE IT DOES NOT FOLLOW DECADES OF CONTINUITY AND DOES NOT FEATURE THE EXACT CHARACTERS THAT I WOULD HAVE FEATURED. THE FIRST CLASS SHOULD BE THE ORIGINAL X-MEN FROM 1963 ONLY. ANYONE ELSE IS A TRAVESTY AND AN INSULT TO EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER BEEN ALIVE.

Grow up. You’ll complain all the way til you buy the ticket and see the damn thing. Don’t believe me – go look up Ledger as Joker and the comments made before that. As for the characters, people want more obscure characters featured but then complain when they get that. Why? How about we all calm down and wait for it to come out before we insult it too much.

I think a big issue that you’re calling a lot of us stupid for is that since they are calling the movie X-Men: First Class, that we expect them to actually have the appropriate characters in the movie. I don’t care if other characters show up as well, but it’d be like making an Avengers origin movie and only having Iron Man and Wasp on the team and then random peripheral characters filling out the rest of the roster. I’ll ultimately wait until the movie is out and I see it before I make any major judgements, but I’m under zero expectations that this movie will be any better than Wolverine was, but I’ll give it a fair chance beforehand.

I’m usually of the same opinion as you, thinking that people need to actually watch the movie before making blanket judgements against the whole thing, but most of the commentors on this thread are complaining simply about what they’re seeing. Like one person not liking the way Mystique looked in the above picture; not saying that she’ll be terrible in the movie, just saying that in the picture about she looked like she was wearing a Mystique mask much like Hannibal Lector. Or complaining about the roster, not too much about actual cast, but about characters being used in a movie that by all rights should have been: Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Iceman, Jean Grey, Professor X.

Also, I don’t like the costumes just looking at them, but they do rock the original color schemes so I’ll give them that.

Since this photo has been removed everywhere else, it could be this is just a rough of some sort – as is NOT the finished product.

To me, the biggest flaw is Beast. I thought for sure I heard this movie would detail his transformation into the blue-furred mutant, and having him all center stage and beasty like that makes me wonder if this pic is totally legit.

Granted, you probably know by now, but in the trailer they definitely show him before he turned blue and they show glimpses of the transformation. In the early release photos, if they didn’t show him covered in blue fur, most people probably wouldn’t have known who he was.
