Major Spoilers Costume Contest 2010: Meet the Finalists

    Robot OverlordBy Robot OverlordOctober 25, 2010Updated:October 26, 201051 Comments1 Min Read

The Major Spoilers Crew (plus a few others) spent the weekend toiling over all the entries, going back and forth over which entrant in the Major Spoilers Costume Contest should be in the Top 5.  After much blood, sweat, and tears (mostly on Matthew’s part), we’ve narrowed our list of entrants to five.  The in-house voting was very close this year, with one point separating the final five from the the sixth on the list.

Who made the finals?  Take the jump to find out, then cast your vote to select the winner!

Missed all the entrants?  Check them out here!

    THE FINALISTS

    Big Barda

    Huntress

    Mockingbird

    Orange Lantern Lex Luthor

    Star Sapphire

Great costumes from all the entrants, but alas… there can be only one.  We’ve made the tough choices to narrow the list, but now it is up to you, the Major Spoilerites to cast your vote on who will be named the winner in the Major Spoilers Costume Contest.

Thanks, but I was ALL of the Sinestro Corps entries, and I don’t feel robbed one bit! Man, this is going to be an agonizing decision. Still haven’t voted yet. Every finalist has a fantastic costume and REALLY looks the part…

While Huntress is my favorite of all the choice characters, the Mockingbird costume is spectacular on all fronts.

A lot of my vote came down to whether I actually liked the design of the source material costume rather than the contestant’s actual execution of the costume.

Must agree, Sinestro was robbed (too “professional”). However Mockingbird LOOKS like Mockingbird; costume, face, demeanour, etc. Well done, that entrant.

Wow, really surprised Sinestro and Pixie didn’t make the cut. Barda and Huntress seem to be at a disadvantage having their pics cropped too. My vote goes to Luthor. That outfit looks like it took a lot of work and he wears it really well.

One dude in the whole thing. Star Saphire looks great, but there is very little costume to judge. I voted for Lex because he’s the only guy and he’s technically the underdog. He also seems to have taken the most care with his costume creation. It’s not like you’re gonna find it hanging up in a costume shop.

I was so excited to find out I made the finals with the cool kids! Then I was like, “Oh dear…this is a voting contest and these are all great folks and amazing costumers!” It’s kind of an ungraceful position to be in, but I am so honored to be in the finals and any vote you guys and girls make will be going to very nice folks. Huntress has visited sick kids with me in the Army’s EFMP program in Texas. Mockingbird, Big Barda, and Lex have offered to send their costuming scraps to help make quilts for children with life threatening illnesses. Theses are all wonderful people and you really can’t vote wrong!

Mockingbird all the way. Not only does she look like her comic counterpart in looks and demeanor, her costume is very well done. Plus she is just so hot. I know that is not a very valid choosing method but she was the first that caught my eye and had my eye going back to it over and over again.

Mockingbird, as seen here: http://www.majorspoilers.com/major-spoilers-costume-contest-2010-meet-the-entrants , she looks like her comic self was hit by a de-cartoonifier and brought to life.

Too bad neither Namora or Sinestro made the cut, both costumes were very good.

I can’t believe this isn’t a shut out. The Mockingbird costume actually looks like someone in real life decided to fight crime as Mockingbird. The others look like people in home made costumes.

Wow, Jay, I know that we put ourselves out there as costumers and that Mockingbird is an absolutely gorgeous interpretation of the character, but to say that all the others look like people in “home made costumes” when you know we’re all looking at this site seems ungraceful to me.
We ALL put a lot of effort and work into our costumes. Say awesome things about Mockingbird because she certainly deserves it, but you don’t have to try to chop everyone else down to do that. That’s obviously just my 2 cents.
That said, good luck to you.

Okay… I must admit I made my costume at home. But since the canon original was constructed from a primal-force-generated plasma, I was limited to the technology available to me. :)

          Good luck everyone!

I couldn’t agree more. They are amazing costumes and there is no need to disparage any of them. There’s really no reason we can’t appreciate everyone’s efforts. Great work was done on all fronts.

I agree the cropping of Barda and Huntress seems weird and unwarranted and does a disservice to those costumes because you can’t actually see the entire thing.

I actually think that they should have posted 2 or 3 photos of each finalist, to see them from different angles and such.

True, but most people aren’t going to realize that/bother before they jump down to the vote. It just seems odd and slightly random that those to got cropped, especially sense it takes as much time to crop as it does to resize. Just my opinion though, so take it as you will.

Agh…I can’t decide, they are all so good. And looking at the costumes that didn’t make the cut, I must congratulate every single one! The only one that is a bit weird for me is Star Sapphire, because the woman in the photo looks too much like that girl from the kid show (the one about a girl and her friends who have a popular webshow…my kids watch it sometimes), so it is a bit creepy in my mind, no fault of the fan herself, I must add, it is a wonderful costume.

If I have to make a choice right now, my vote goes to Mockingbird, with Lex a close second.

OK so smokin’ hot in a tight outfit is a very yummy thing. But how many times do you see someone who actually looks like Lex and seems to actually play the character. I mean look at that guy… He’s ready to stomp the crap out of Superman! That’s the difference between someone playing dress up and someone bringing a character to life!

Since everyone seems to be concerned about the Top 5 selection process
The Major Spoilers Crew (and a select few others) were asked to pick their top ten entrants and rank them from 1 to 10.
A numerical value was placed on each of those rankings
Scores were calculated with those with the most points making the Final Five.

        Two bits of information
        1) The difference between the number five finalist and the number six, seven, and eighth finalists was a difference of one point – there was nearly a four way tie for #5.
        2) Numerically, you might be surprised at who would have won the contest if it were simply based on voting of the Major Spoilers Crew

Oh – my bad. See, I was asking if he was implying that the Orange Lantern Lex Luthor costume looks like a large bird with long pointed wings and a long bill.

Boobies aren’t even orange — I assumed he was thinking of an oriole.

Okay – funny story (IMHO) from Dragon*con…

I was wearing the Orange Lanten Lex Luthor costume, looking for friends who were having drinks in an unanamed “bar.” When I looked for them at Hooters (they were actually across the street), every patron in the place looked at The Orange Guy who had just walked in the door.

Needing to respond to dozens of questions, looks and gestures asking what/who I was suppose to be — and not wanting to start explaining “Lex Luthor gets an Orange Power Ring” to a bunch of non-comicbook-readers — I said to those within immediate earshot:

“I am dressed as a pair of Hooters waitress’ shorts”

…and walked out before I had to answer anything else.
