It was bad enough Cable was inspired by AKIRA, now they are ripping it off whole cloth, Tetsuo may be a mutant psychic, but not in the X-Men universe. It goes way beyond a nod, and to setting up a freaking three ring circus shouting out that WE ARE RIPPING OFF AKIRA!!!

      Borrowing…not ripping off ;-)

However, this is the first X-book out in awhile that I seem to take a liking to. First I love Rouge because she’s still one of the only redneck comic characters in Marvel (ya’ll shush!). The “lights” are a modern version of the original team in many ways (a Jean Grey clone, a mutant with temperature powers, a “beast”, etc.) Plus I’ve always enjoyed seeing the leadership dynamic of Logan and Cyclops develop over the years. I was not a huge fan of “The New Mutants” when they first came out but this series may hold my interest.

Ummmmmmm….That last image is quite a little more than borrowing from AKIRA!!!! Shoooooooot…..THAT IS AKIRA!!! All the way down to the lil tattered red cape/cloth behind him. It looks interesting tho. I guess we’ll see.

And, to follow behind TAZ….nor, was I a fan of THE NEW MUTANTS. Moreso because of the name. What the heck kinda team name is “THE NEW MUTANTS anyway. Hated it when I was a kid. Hate it as an adult.

Although, GENERATION HOPE sucks just as much as GENERATION X sucked as a name/title too. LOL. You’d think that the “creators” could come up with something more “creative”!!!

Generation X did suck as a name, but the early run was and is one of my favorite runs ever for an X book. So many awesome original ideas there.

This though, that IS Akira, no bones about it, not even in homage territory.

I do not mind that it bears such an uncanny resemblance to Akira. It looks like a kickass book with a kickass cast, and it’s aboutdamntime there’s a new villain that shows some potentially interesting qualities.
