I know a great number of you are currently avoiding all your regular Major Spoilers reading so you can play Red Dead Redemption. Here’s some interesting news – John Hillcoat, director of The Road, has created a 30-minute movie based on the video game and using the in-game assets and technology to do it. The movie hits Fox FIVE USA on June 5, 2011, but there’s a trailer out now.
For those in the USA who saw this, what did you think?

I watched this on Sunday after DVR’ing it (it aired at Midnight CST Saturday, May 29th…um, you may want to recheck the date you posted!). I was disappointed to find that it seemed to just re-use the existing cut-scenes from the game, whereas I thought it was going to be a side or prequel story. The first few scenes were directly cut from the same ones I saw in the first hour of the game. Now I’m pretty sure the rest come from later in the game, and spoiled some of the story for me. At the end, we just get a “to be continued, in Red Dead Redemption.”
Maybe the thing that bugged me most was that this “movie” was really just a 20-minute commercial using in-game footage I had already purchased, and they even had the audacity to show COMMERCIALS during the COMMERCIAL! Crazy stuff.
You’re right, that June 5 date is for those in the UK.
