Art Appreciation Moment of the Day: Mitch Gerads

Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherAugust 6, 20091 Comment1 Min Read

Evan Shaner thinks Mitch Gerads is good enough to be featured on his favorites page, and his Wizard World Chicago Johnny Recon variant.

Really excited how this turned out, they printed beautifully.

I’m really looking forward to Chicago. Johnny has been a long time coming.

From the press release given to Wizard:

POPGUNPULP Comics is debuting Johnny Recon No. 01 by Mitch Gerads and Scott Dillon at Wizard World Chicago. To commemorate this monumentous occasion, illustrator Mitch Gerads is selling a “Wicked Awesome” Wizard World Chicago EXCLUSIVE print. All prints are 13″x19″ on beautiful vibrant heavyweight paper and limited to a first printing run of only 50 signed and numbered copies. Stop by the POPGUNPULP table in Artists Alley, (Bright Red tablecloth with a raygun on it, can’t miss it.) meet some fine folks, and pick up a great print! See ya there!

Is pulp comic art the “in” thing right now? Seems to be a lot of that lately.

The piece is good, overall, for what it is supposed to be. The only problem I have is that I am not sure how to define the emotion the character is expressing. He looks a little psychotic so I don’t know if I can get behind him…but I’m afraid for him to get behind me.
