SDCC’09: Hot rumor of the day: Superman to appear on Smallville

Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherJuly 24, 20098 Comments1 Min Read

Well, duh, we already know Clark Kent is Superman and has been on the Smallville television series for the last 9 years, but one has to remember the Superman costume, and powers like flying have been kept strictly on the down-low to avoid mixing the Smallville universe with the DC in-continuity one.

That might all change come Sunday when it MIGHT be announced that Superman’s outfit will make an appearance in the season premiere of season 9 – aptly titled “Superman”.

Does this mean we might see Tom Welling take over the film franchise down the road?  Another rumor has a made for television movie called Metropolis in the works for The CW.

Keep in mind, both of these are rumors for now, but we should have a better idea of what is going to happen on Sunday.

I’ve been following this show through its very cool, weird, and downright dumb moments…so I will see it through to the end. I would love to see Welling put on the blue and red for real though…

I’m cool with him being SUper man in the Feature films. A tv movie about him finally becoming Sups is cool too… that doesn’t need to be in the theater again.

The very first scene when he hovers over his bed while dreaming…

I’ve been wading through my wife’s favorite soap opera since ;)

I hope we finally get to see Clark grow up

I havent watched this show since season 2 a billion years ago and giving him the suit doesnt change that. Its not that im a snob and i cant enjoy a show like Smallville..But dammit i want at least one episode where Bruce Wayne shows up and is a complete douchebag…just one episode.

I guess I am in the minority, since I felt that it was a very good show for its first three seasons. It was more spotty in seasons 4-7, but there were still some real high points just fewer and further in between. I missed season 8, aside from the Zatanna and Legion episodes. It is the longest tenured adaptation of a comic book property into any other medium, so I respect it despite its occasional goofiness.

I think DC and Warner Bros. made a huge mistake in not using “Smallville” as a platform to promote “Superman Returns”. I am not saying cast Welling over Routh, just a few little foreshadowing and some common sets would have made a big difference.

      Anyway …

I am glad to see that they are able to use some version of the suit. It is a fitting end.

Why in the world would Tom Welling wearing the red and blue suit mean anything about the movie franchise down the road?

      That’s patently ridiculous…

Did you mention that the JSA might appear on the show this year? Or did I read that somewhere else?
