MAJOR SPOILERS POLL OF THE WEEK
We’re fortunate enough to have access to a plethora of comics at the Stately Spoiler Manor, but that doesn’t mean we’re loaded.  Sometimes one comic is needed more than others, and a tight budget might dictate what we take home, and what stays behind.  Which brings us to the Major Spoilers Poll of the Week!

    MAJOR SPOILERS DISCUSSION
    Preacher Vol. 1
Here’s a book guaranteed to offend a bunch of people, not only because of its profuse profanity and graphic violence, but because it’s the epitome of iconoclasm. Like a brutal accident, you can’t watch but you can’t turn away. The story follows an ex-preacher man, Jesse, who has become disgusted with God’s abandoning of His responsibilities. So Jesse starts off into the wilds of Texas with his hitman girlfriend and new best friend (a vampire) to find God so that he can give Him a piece of his mind. Despite its superficial perversity, this book contains what may be the most moral character in mainstream comics. A cult hit in the making. Fans of Quentin Tarantino take note.

If it takes $5 for Torq to do a review, would you take $10 for him not to do a review? I much prefer Matthew.

Heh… The biggest problem that I have is this: I wasn’t sure that Torq could read before that review. :) And he certainly wasn’t verbally equipped to have the kind of discussion I wanted to do when we talked about the Boys.

    2. Shawn on July 22, 2009 11:23 am

My apologies to Torq. ;) He did very well for his first big comic review. Another great episode BTW.

Gone, gone the form of Matt,
And rise the ogre with a hat!

Incidentally, I am terribly sorry if I offended anyone with my comment about Victoria,…having discerned that she was involved with Brian, and read Rodrigo’s comment about multpile Brians, I made a Monty Python’s “Life of Brian” reference which, unfortunately, is not as recognisable out of Britain. To explain, the film culminates in a crucifixion scene in which everyone pretends to be Brian in order to escape – hence the line “I’m Brian And So’s My Wife!”

Victoria was really lovely on the Podcast, funny and intelligent, and I wouldn’t dream of making fun of her relationship troubles. I imagine that in that context I must have sounded like a dick. I apologise for that also, to both her and Brian.

I guess Matthew enjoys saying my name now that he knows he pronounced it correctly (no help from Rodrigo I assume!). My kids are loving the dedications. Careful there, you may be influencing the next generation of fans!! To all Major Spoiler fans … you get a good deal for the $$ donated!! (<- cheap plug)

Coincidentally I have just recently read the first TP for ‘Preacher’ and agree with the discussion in the podcast. Not an easy read and somewhat disturbing in a “don’t look at the crash victims” kind of way.

      Keep up the good work…

    5. Salieri on July 22, 2009 12:22 pm

Learning that Preacher is written by an Itishmsn puts a different perspective on that issue in “All Hell’s A-Comin'” which is half Jesse and Tulip coming back together, half Tulip’s bff finding love with a eunuch and all a tribute to “Fairytale of New York”…which is all about two Irish lovers in NY arguing.

    6. Stephen Schleicher on July 22, 2009 12:22 pm

Jorge: You get more dedications because you made a huge donation! (HINT HINT for the rest of you). :D

    7. J Michael T on July 22, 2009 12:32 pm

Stephen: Very cool. I guess I may have been a little bit disoriented after listening to over 100 episodes over two weeks and may have added one too many zeroes to the amount I donated :-)

Kidding. This show/wbesite is definitely worth it. Spread the word!

PS When can we expect the “Torq Loves Funnel Cake” t-shirt?

Like you guys, I thought Arseface was a horrible caricature. I was wrong. Turns out that’s pretty much exactly what you look like after being shot in the face. Connie Culp recently underwent a successful face transplant after her husband shot her: Before and after the surgery.

    10. Shawn on July 22, 2009 9:01 pm

I remember the makeup test for Arseface a few years ago during one of the first tries at bringing it to the small screen.

I have all of the trades including the TPB of collected covers by Fabry. Makes me want to dive into that and read them all again.

Hey, I’m trying to listen to the podcast and it’s giving me a message saying “file not found”. Is this just me and if it is how do I fix it?
