    SDCC’09: The Julian Challenge

Julian and Insult the Comic Dog during Comic Con International: San Diego 2008.

What the heck is the Julian Challenge?  During the Major Spoilers 100th Issue Extravaganza, the Major Spoilers Crew challenged Julian to collect 50 signatures from those in the comic book and pop culture industry in exchange for a kick-ass Hellboy statue.

What’s Julian think of all of this?  Take the jump and find out in his own words.

Ah, San Diego Comic-Con. If you’re interested in the entertainment industry at all, then you know that this place is an absolute treat for fans the world over.  And this year’s 40th edition of SDCC promises to have some special meaning to Major Spoilers due to the project they’ve given me.

Now I suppose that introductions are in order; what’s up everyone, I’m Julian.  A few of you out there in internet-land may know who I am, but for those who don’t, I’m just a guy who happens to be a big fan of comic books and Major Spoilers and is willing to do some fun stuff for them whenever they ask for it (though the rewards I get do help my motivation a bit too).  That’s about all that separates me from all guys.  Trust me-I read my comic books one page at a time just like any of you do.

Anyway, back to that project I mentioned; anyone that heard me on issue 100 of the Major Spoilers Podcast knows that I was recently sent a gigantic poster for the site that I need to get filled up with at least 50 signatures of people that are famous in the comics/entertainment industry.  Luckily for me, SDCC happens to be chock full of those types of people.  I’ve already got a large selection of people I’ve planned to meet from webcomic people to comic book artists/writers to editors and anyone in between.

To ensure that I won’t cheat (I wouldn’t put it past me) and that every signature is indeed genuine, I plan on taking pictures of nearly all of the signers. Mr. Schleicher was even kind enough to set it up so I could write pieces to go along with my photos (which explains how you’re reading this).

So I’m heading down to San Diego to stay at my cousin’s house Wednesday morning and you can expect some semi-regular updates from me as the Con rolls on.

Oh and if any of you guys happen to know anyone who has a booth at the event and you’d like to see their name on the poster, just comment and I’ll do my best to accommodate you.

And if you happen to be taking the trip down to San Diego and see a 16-year-old holding a poster case and wearing a red backpack traveling in a group of around four, feel free to say hi!  But make sure he’s me first, alright?

Let’s wish Julian well in his quest.  I have a feeling 50 signatures is going to be child’s play.  Maybe we should have made it 100 signatures…

Thanks for the kind words guys!

One thing I forgot o mention: I’m not positive that the convention center gets wifi, but if it does you’ll be able to look forward to as-they-happen updates from my twitter at twitter.com/eonspast.

      Just something to consider…

Stephen you need to make sure all 50 of those signatures don’t come from Boom! alone. If they do you know Chip had something to do with it! ;-)

Good Luck Julian. I hope you have fun. And I want to know how many people look at your poster and already know what Major Spoilers is. Major Spoilers should be a household name…

Good luck Julian! You should have a film crew following so we watch a documetary short about it! I’d watch that!
