Fan Film Rundown 10: Ryan vs. Dorkman (I & II)

Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherFebruary 24, 20096 Comments1 Min Read

Tonight on the Major Spoilers Podcast, the crew will be talking Fan Films.  Joining the crew on the show are Dr. Peter Coogan and author Clive Young, as everyone runs down some of their favorites.  To get you in the mood, we’re presenting a selection of some of the films we’ll discuss on tonight’s show.

RYAN WIEBER VS. MICHAEL “DORKMAN” SCOTT

What began as a friendly rivalry between two effects artists explodes off TheForce.Net’s FanFilms Forum and into the real world in a lightsaber battle royale.

Originally created for the forum’s lightsaber choreography competition, this fight to the death will decide once and for all who is truly most skilled with a saber.

    There can be only one.

For even more fun, check out Ryan vs. Dorkman II, after the jump.

While the physical aspects are not very demaning I have choreographed sword fights and it takes a heck of a long time to get the timing right, I’m impresed!

      “Not in the glasses, asshole.”

“No horse play by the lathe!”

“This isn’t as fun with our clothes on.”

“Now that there are two openings, maybe we can both join the Trench Coat Mafia”

RvsD2 is one of the best fan-films I know, mostly because there’s no dialog in it, which is the field in which most fan-films start to stink. But here, it’s just a nice little violent dance.

This was actually a demo for their reels as FX artists, and it surely paid off: Ryan’s working for an FX house now and does 3D work and comping for “Heroes” (as seen in the Making Off that they showed as lead-in to the season premiere), and Scott works in the FX-biz as well and has a blog about Movies, Filmaking and FX and Atheism (what a great combo) here: http://dorkmanscott.wordpress.com
