When the evil wizard Marten Broadlock pays a visit to Gabrielle, he subtly influences her to kill her own husband, Steven Deschain, ruler of Gilead!  But what happens when there is another mysterious figure with the same intentions?  Steven will have to use all his might and prowess if he hopes to survive such threats.  To make matters worse, his son, the young gunslinger Roland, is lost under the spell cast by looking into the sphere called Maerlyn’s Grapefruit. And what he sees was never meant for the eyes of a mortal!
