    SDCC’08: All Things Batman

Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherJuly 26, 20083 Comments1 Min Read

DC held its Batman panel on Friday, and once again Major Spoilers is here to boil everything down to the most important bits.

darkknightpanel.jpgOn the panel were Grant Morrison, Brian Azzarello, Paul Dini, Dustin Nguyen, Jerry Robinson, and Michael Marts.

    • Morrison has finished the script for Batman R.I.P.
    • The villain is someone everyone knows, but haven’t guessed yet.  If you can stand it, go back and read the R.I.P. stories again to see if you can figure it out.
    • Robinson is working on a project involving the Joker.
    • Detective Comics #850 will be a double-sized issue and conclude the Hush storyline.
    • Dini has written an episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold featuring Bat-Mite.
    • Everyone on the panel agreed that the Joker shouldn’t be recast for another Batman film.
    • The panel also agree that it would be a bad idea for Batman to break his one rule about using guns.
    • Two-Face will return to the main Batman titles in 2009, but not in the Batman title that Morrison is working on.

Lots of random discussions about favorite movies, villains, etc. but no other major talking points from the panel.

Thanks for the quick recaps. Sometimes it’s brutal trying to read the detailed summaries.
Then it’s almost like being at work, when there’s the guy trying to stall for time rather than come out and just say “I can’t do that.”

Someone everyone knows, but hasn’t guessed?
      Skrulls?
Zombies? Because the Jason Todd that came back is really a Skrull.

My honest pick: Joe Chill. I say he got blacklisted by people who know Batman’s identity and what he did (Red Robin, Catwoman), and now is taking his revenge. If he’s alive. I never know with all these reboots.

The bad guy is someone no one has guessed because, from a reader’s POV, the bad guy isn’t actually a bad guy. Unless that reader happened to be familiar with 1964 DETECTIVE COMICS issues.

No word on more Zatanna in DETECTIVE? It’s been, like, two or three months. Didn’t think Dini could go that long without shoehorning her in.

The bad guy? Grant Morrison from what I can make out so far.

Brian Azzarello on the panel? What’s he doing that’s Batman related? I loved his Broken City stuff!
