    Marvel Monkeys Abound This September

With Marvel Apes debuting in September, Marvel will also release Monkey Variants for many of its titles.  Kicking us off are the variant covers to Ghost Rider #26 and Moon Knight #21.  For some reason people go bananas for monkeys in comics, and variants seem to do well too, so I guess Marvel will have a couple of sell out titles on its hands.

Take the jump for a peek.

While the whole concept of Marvel Apes is kind of silly, the Moon Knihgt variant is pretty amusing. The Ghost Rider variant, not so much.

And shouldn’t Ape Bullseye be flinging poop?

seriously though…. somebody signed off on this project? And, like, people will buy it?? Oh man, this is why i don’t like people…. i mean, sure it can be argued that even liking comics is “silly” enough… but then we flashback to the 70’s for Planet of the Superapes? Or are we destined for years of jokes based on “clever” monkey puns? Captain Apemerica? Iron-gutan? The Green Gibbon? Spider-Monkey? Wolverape and the rest of the X-imians?

did ANYBODY think this through? it sounds like Captain Carrot and his amazing Zoo Crew, only without the funny. If there’s one thing i know about animal books… unless you’re a duck named Howard, they don’t do so good unless you’re funny…

Well, at least I’m not the only one who thinks this absolutely absurd. Although, it seems to be the trend in today’s society (not just in the comic world) – take something that may be mildly popular and COMPLETELY run it ragged. I present to you, as exhibit one for the prosecution, reality television…..

They should have stuck with puppies and rainbow variants. THOSE I would buy.

I think the next evolution is Mecha Marvel. Granted, they’ve done something like this before, with Spider-Man and the Avengers in giant robot suits a few years back, but I see more of a Gundam thing, where future manga androgynous types fight evil in giant MechAvengers suits based on the classic Marvel characters with lame soap opera romance subplots mixed in. In backwards B&W manga format.

Also, the Ant-Droid has to smack down the Mecha-Wasp. And the i-Hawk has to die like six times. And the Spectacular Spider-Mech has to let a petty smuggler through a blockade who later kills the pilot’s Uncle Shiro, teaching him that with great giant robot power comes great giant robot responsibility. And Wolverchine has to regenerate components whenever something gets blown off. And Iron Man will actually be the immortal Tony Stark fused with Ultron and the Vision and only pretending to be piloted by his great-great-grandson.

      Yeah that’s all I got.

Oh almost forgot, tentacle porn and plenty of it.

I think I would buy the MechaMarvel if it was presented by Mark I. That was HIGH-LARRY-US. I seriously can’t believe you didn’t mention tentacles earlier, and you COMPLETELY left out the fact that all the female mech pilots would be in classic schoolgirl uniforms with hair dyed in various bright neon colors. Hey… Wanna go 75%/25% with me when you pitch the idea to the Mighty Marvel Bullpen? You get the 75%, obviously… :D

I was waiting for Marvel Werewolves, as shown on the last page of Army of Darkness vs Marvel Zombies.
