Marvel big wigs Peter Cuneo, Marvel Vice Chairman, and John Turitzin, Marvel Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Office of the Chief Executive, participated in the Wedbush Morgan Securities Management Access Conference yesterday and stated that Tony Stark would indeed appear in the Hulk movie, but also pushed back the date of Iron Man 2 to 2010.
The execs said the move was to maintain the May 1st release schedule that has worked so well for them with the first Iron Man and Spider-Man 3, as well as to maintain the high quality that came from the first film. The new release date is May 1, 2010.
Well thank goodness someone understands that quality is important in a franchise film. When the 2009 release date was first announced, I was hesitant that it was being rushed too quickly to make fast money. And apparently others agree with that statement. After a few weeks of Marvel stock slipping, it is back up this morning.
