Marvel Sneak Peek: The Last Defenders

The Initiative has deployed its latest team to New Jersey (and here I thought everyone in NY hated those Jersey folk). Joe Casey picks up the pen and weaves the six part tale of Nighthawk and his old pals being assigned to the Garden State by Iron Man.

“The Last Defenders is the Marvel series I’ve been waiting my entire career to write,” said Casey. “Every issue is jam-packed with superhero teambook goodness. Jim’s art is phenomenal, and industry legend Keith Giffen pitched in with his classic storytelling chops. For me as a writer, this one’s really got it all.”

The good people at Marvel were kind enough to send us a sneak peek of the first issue that arrives March 12, 2008.

The Last Defenders is rip-roaring adventure and sure to make a Defenders fan out of anyone new and old! How will Nighthawk fare as a team leader? Can he control this team of quarrelsome hotheads? Also, there is trouble brewing in the sea beneath them and in the skies above! Find out who’s planning to make this team work for their paycheck in The Last Defenders #1 (of 6)

I was going to ask what’s Colossus doing there, when I remembered that the X-Men broke up after Messiah Complex. Still, it’s not like he couldn’t be on two teams, or if he was like Wolverine, 20. :)

I always dug the Defenders. Not sure about this line-up, though. And Jerz only needs 4 heros?
