Warner Bros. has optioned a script by Paul Sopocy to turn the 80s animated series into a new toy line and CGI-animated feature.
Property revolves around a group of humanoid cats (with feline names like Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro and Cheetara) who must flee their planet of Thundera after it’s destroyed. Once crash-landing on another planet, Third Earth, they must thwart Mumm-Ra, an evil sorcerer, bent on killing them off.
Never got into the TV series myself, but I see the young interns walking around Stately Spoiler Mansion wearing T-shirts with the logo emblazend across it everyday, so there is bound to be a market for Thundercats, ho!

Thundercats is probably one of the only 80’s retro cartoons that doesn’t appeal to me… I even liked Wheeled Warriors, dangit! But it never did anything for me…

Dude. Kim (my wife) is going to freak out! She loved the Thundercats. We have an old VHS tape of some of the episodes that I bought her in Minnesota.
Aw, maaan… You said the “w” word. Now all our spam will say “shaved house wife” for a couple of days!!
That may be why Stephen and I didn’t dig the T-Cats… We were probably a year or so too old…
I love me some Battle of the Planets, though..
Thundercats, Shmundercats. Where’s my GI JOE movie?!?!?!?
Matt Damon as Duke! Gary Oldman as Cobra Commander! Sean Bean as Destro! George Takei as Storm Shadow! Oh myyyyy…
George Takei is like 70 years old! Of course, I can’t think of anyone to play him who isn’t Chinese, so you’ve beaten me…
But now that you mention it, I can totally see Charlize Theron as Lady Jaye, Samuel Jackson as Roadblock, Scarlett Johanssen as Cover Girl, maybe even Kate Beckinsale as Scarlett.
Of course, Snake Eyes would have to be played by somebody good at martial arts, so let’s say… um… Ken Masters?
How bout Jet Li? Atleast since snake eyes was mute, Li won’t have to say any lines (thank god). Jessica Biel as Lady Jaye would be nice or maybe that redhead Bryce Dallas Howard.
I loved Thundercats. I just watched some clips on YouTube and realised I still love Thundercats.
I’m not sure about CGI, though. It should be live action.
… or traditional animation. Even an anime reinterpretation would be better than CGI!
