    Free Comics Equals More Customer

    Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherOctober 17, 2006Updated:October 17, 20061 Comment2 Mins Read

A survey conducted by Diamond Comic Distributors, has revealed what we already know – giving away free comics is a sure fire way of getting more people into the stores and actually buying stuff.

According to the survey, retailers who participated in Free Comic Book Day 2006, experienced 57% higher sales on that day, with 35% of the respondents experienced significantly increased sales one month after the event. The numbers don’t stop at 76% said they gained customers in the month following FCBD 2006.

“Even before the survey results were tabulated, retailers who participated in FCBD were sharing their success stories with us,” said Free Comic Book Day spokesperson Elissa Lynch. “These results dramatically support those stories, and reflect how the time and hard work that went into planning the big day paid off for all involved.”

“These statistics illustrate how successfully FCBD accomplished one of its key mission. To introduce readers with limited exposure to comics to the wide range of subject matter the medium has to offer — and to encourage those newcomers to return to comic shops on a regular basis.”

If you missed out on all the free comics, fear not! Free Comic Book Day 2007, will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2007.

I think they should do free comic book day every month at all comic bookstores and regular bookstores, so they can promote more comic books, and maybe gain more comic readers.
