The story concerns a minister, the Reverend William Stryker, stirring up religious anti-mutant fervor and kidnapping Professor X in an attempt to eradicate all mutants. It is one of the most clear-cut examples of X-Men comics using mutant relations as a metaphor for real life race relations as well as being a general critic of prejudice and what was the growing political clout of televangelists.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for Major Spoilers. First, there was a holiday a couple weeks ago that threw everything out of whack. Then this past weekend, the Major Spoilers website packed up and moved to a brand new server (how do you like our new digs?), so our minds were a bit preoccupied with many things. That didn’t stop the news… on the march!

X-Men: First Class was a pretty good movie, and it impressed the studios enough to green light a sequel.

With the recent announcement that Jean-Paul “Northstar” Beaubier would marry his long-time (you should excuse the expression) beau, Kyle, I started thinking about the long and illustrious career of Canada’s fastest man alive. From his earliest days with Alpha Flight to his current stay on Utopia, Jean-Paul has a long and storied career of heroism, haughty attitude and terrible costumes, but I imagine many of us only know him as Marvel’s first openly-gay superhero. Seems to me that it’s time to right that particular wrong…
