Interview: Raven Gregory Talks Zombies and Wonderland

Zombies appear to be all the rage these days! Take a look at such titles as Blackest Night and Marvel Zombies. Novels such as “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” have hit the New York Times best seller list and the Woody Harrelson movie “Zombieland” was an audience favorite. It seems we are in the midst of a Zombie invasion and writer Raven Gregory has entered the game. How does one give readers a story centering on the undead without repeating what’s all ready been done? By giving the Zombie’s a purpose. Don’t expect an army of mindless corpses rising from the dead to feast on the living (or more specifically, their brains). In “The Waking” murder victims are seeking revenge on those who took their lives.

Review: Escape from Wonderland #1

EFW01_4PICON.jpg

Calie travels through the looking glass one last time on a desperate mission to rescue her daughter.

If you don’t know anything about Zenescope’s best selling Wonderland series, I would advise that you go to your local comic store and pick up the Return to Wonderland hardback along with back issues of Beyond Wonderland (the Tales from Wonderland trade paperback is also a great read which contains individual stories on characters such as the Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts). You don’t necessarily have to read the first two chapters to enjoy Escape but it will add to your reading pleasure. If you’re new to the series, this is pretty much all you need to know: Alice’s daughter Calie has traveled back to Wonderland to save her baby girl Violet, who was kidnapped by the Mad Hatter (Calie’s brother, Johnny).

Final Wonderland Mini Announced from Zenescope

(click for larger)

Zenescope Entertainment has announced the third and final mini-series of its Wonderland series, “Escape from Wonderland” will arrive in July.  The seven-issue mini-series follows the grown up Alice and her daughter Calie as they attempt to put a stop to evil from escaping Wonderland and infecting their world.

“We have such a supportive and passionate fan base who have given the series a chance and have responded extremely well to it so we’re more than excited about this final installment and bringing the story full circle.  But love it or hate it, one thing is true, our version of Wonderland has definitely struck a nerve these past couple of years,” said Zenescope Executive VP and series co-creator Ralph Tedesco.

The other two series were definitely interesting takes on the Lewis Carroll classic, and those into horror/slasher/gothic stories should get a kick out of this final arc.
