I’ve been a comics fan for a looooonnnnnnggg time, and one of the things I’ve always enjoyed has been arriving at my local comics shop and picking up the newest titles on Wednesday, the day they’re released. Apparently, that’s a dying practice!
One of the most important things in the buying of comics appears to be habit. You go to the store on a certain day at a certain time and voila – there are your comics waiting for you! Depending on the store and the time, you may find that NOT the case this Wednesday, July 5!
It used to be that Monday holidays such as this one, Presidents’ Day, would give me fits! It had to do with the fact that New Comic Book Day is usually Wednesday, and a holiday like today would screw up the delivery schedule like crazy! Thankfully, that’s not the case these days!
Several columns back, I discussed the advent of Loot Crate, a subscription service that sends to your door a variety of comics, toys and other comics-related items. They publicize well in advance what the theme of each month’s offerings will be so you can know what you want. As cool as all that is, I can’t subscribe to a service that comes to me fewer times than my local comics shop has new offerings to pick up. Call me irrational, but I can’t wait when it’s time to feed my comics habit!
