Summit Entertainment has announced Astro Boy will see a North America release on Friday, October 23, 2009. Astro Boy’s all-star cast features the voices of Academy AwardÂ®-winning actor Nicolas Cage, Donald Sutherland, Nathan Lane, Bill Nighy and Eugene Levy with Freddie Highmore in the title role. David Bowers (Flushed Away) is directing Astro Boy from a screenplay written by Timothy Harris (Trading Places, Kindergarten Cop), with Maryann Garger producing. The company will push the film hard, as the CG-animated movie will land on 3,000 screens. via Summit Entertainment
Saw this notice posted, and gotta say I’m extremely pleased with the potential behind this movie. Fellow Star Wars Fans, The battle to save Fanboys is over! AND WE WON! The Weinstein Company has decided to listen to the outcry from Star Wars fans around the globe! They have restored the original plotline and have given the movie back to the Star Wars fans who made it! The film has been given back to the original director and he is currently editing the final version at Skywalker Ranch! The original cut of the movie will be released in theaters later

At ShoWest this past week, George Lucas dropped by to hype Star Wars: Clone Wars animated film and TV series. Lucas described the film, which takes place between episodes two and three of the series, as “a stylised cartoon, it’s not photo real…it’s in a Gerry Anderson style, Thunderbirds.
