Or – “AN-THO-LO-GEE!  AN-THO-LO-GEE!  YOU BORDER ON… THE… AD-RI… ATIC!”

The day of the monthly anthology may be done, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t still places where comic publishers can deliver short story goodness to their readers.  We’re going old-school, with the legendary Time Warp, and your Major Spoilers review awaits!

REVIEW: Hellblazer #300 (of 300)

Or – “I’ve Been Putting Off Reading This One…”

I’ve been readin’ comics for a very long time.  Titles have come and gone, characters and universes swirling down the drain month after month, but Hellblazer has remained.  Since The Reagan Administration, I’ve been picking up every issue of this book (even the really awful ones) and I find the concept of a world without Hellblazer to be one that’s somehow a sadder place.  Still, time is an illusion, so they say, and lunchtime doubly so, and there’s no reason to dilly-dally any longer.  The end of one of my personal eras of comics is here, and your Major Spoilers review awaits!

REVIEW: Fables #122

Despite common, non-comic reader misconception, comics are more than just underwear perverts boxing with villains. Exhibit A is this title: Fables, which is near the top of my list of comics to recommend to comic book newbs. But after 122 issues (has it really been ten years?) is there a bottom to the public domain well from which Bill Willingham is drawing? Or can he re-contextualize the classic tales ad infinitum? Broaden your mind, after the jump.

REVIEW: The Unwritten #40

In a world controlled by the narratives in the collective unconscious, what happens when the main story ends? In the aftermath of Tommy’s final battle with Pullman, who will pick up the pieces and can this book continue to raise Harry Potter Fan Fic to an artform?

REVIEW: Fairest #6

With his Fables series so popular that two TV networks ripped it off, writer Bill Willingham found that there was enough demand to launch a spin-off series exploring other corners of his fictional universe. His first six-issue arc probes the pre-Disney origins of Sleeping Beauty, who is in a love triangle with Ali Baba and the Snow Queen, while a tiny, naked, blue man watches. Can a comic book really live up to that set-up?

REVIEW: Fables #114

Or – “Realistic Portrayals Of Kids Are Difficult, But Awesome…”

The children of Bigby Wolf and Snow White have been through a lot since their grandfather (The North Wind) gave his life to defeat the evil creature known as Mr. Dark.  Sadly, it seems that things aren’t gonna be getting any easier.  Can’t a family of wolf/human/wind creatures just siddown and watch Community like normal folk?
