While the second installment of the Iron Man series is in post production, word out of H’wood is that Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau are set to team again in another movie.  This isn’t news about a third Iron Man (although I wouldn’t write that one off), but rather Platinum Studios Cowboys and Aliens movie adaptation.  Downey has been signed to star in the movie for a while, but now with Favreau on board as director, expect this movie to start moving through the Hollywood Machine pretty quickly. The sci-fi Western explores what would happen if the traditional Old

Here’s a roundup of more IDW news announced at the San Diego Comic Con this afternoon. Bat Boy is Back! One of the strangest bits of stuff I was exposed to when working late-night radio was reading a copy of The Weekly World News that featured Bat Boy on the cover. Over the years, the Bat Boy mythos grew until the fictional character took on a life of its own.  Bat Boy has been pretty quiet these last couple of years, but IDW Publishing is resurrecting the character in comic book form. The series will be written by IDW’s Publisher/Editor-in-Chief

The Last Airbender movie from M Night Shyamalan is coming soon, and slashFilm picked up some of the images from today’s USA Today. Noah Ringer plays Aang, the last Air Bender.  The 12-year old from Texas who was cast during an open call.  I’ve only recently caught the series on Nick between episodes of Make Way for Noddy and Thomas the Tank Engine, but I’m certainly looking forward to the trailer that will debut before the Transformers movie on July 2nd. via SlashFilm

Even before the second installment of the Transformers franchise hits the silver screen, Paramount has announced the third Transformers movie has a release date.  Surprisingly, no other studio has scheduled a major film for the 2011 Independence Day holiday, meaning we can expect to see Tranformers 3 hit mid-week on July 1, 2011. There’s no word on title, or who the stars will be, but audiences might get a hint at the end of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which opens June 24, 2009. via THR

While there were a lot of companies that had news to share in their panel, there really wasn’t enough to justify a single article for each.  To make sure we try to get as much complete coverage as we can, here’s a summary of the tid-bits coming from the rest.

Following the demise of HD DVD, it was only a matter of time before Paramount caved in and announced plans to bring Transformers to the Blu-Ray format. When it was announced Paramount was going the HD DVD route, director Michael Bay was pretty upset about the announcement, only to change his tune a few short days later. Perhaps it had something to do with the HD DVD camp throwing a lot of money Paramount’s way. My guess is the studio got to keep all the money even after Toshiba and others admitted defeat, so now it is full steam ahead
