Or so says Joe Quesada to MTV when speaking about the Kenneth Branagh film adaptation of the Norse god story.
“It’s going to be pretty epic, and regardless of what you think it’s going to be, it’s going to surprise people,” he added. “It’s an interesting piece for a superhero movie. It’s going to change the conventions of the superhero movie.”
Joe Q. goes on to say that he’s sat through meetings with Branagh and says that the director has immersed himself into the subject matter. When one looks at the library of Branagh films, and understands his love for classic storytelling, I expect Thor will be something akin to Henry V. And if that is the case, then don’t be surprised if Thor becomes one of the greatest superhero movies of all time.

We’re in the homestretch in the Major Spoilers 28 Days of Geek Giving guide for 2009. The big day is quickly approaching, and there’s still plenty of time to find that something awesome for the geek in your life.
Today’s installment we have a fairly inexpensive life-sized model of Thor’s Hammer. While other replicas will set you back several hundred dollars, this officially licensed plastic hammer will only set you back a Jackson (plus shipping). If you have someone that love’s to cosplay and needs a cool looking hammer when they dress up as the Norse god, then this is something that might complete the ensemble.

Variety is reporting that Rene Russo has been cast a Firgga, the mother of Thor, in the upcoming Kenneth Branagh movie that begins shooting next month.
Mark Protosevich and Zack Stentz penned the script, which has the powerful but arrogant warrior Thor reigniting an ancient war. As punishment, Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans. Once here, he learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends dark forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
Marvel has announced a new imprint called Marvel’s Greatest Comics, which will spotlight Marvel’s biggest series with new printings that will sell for one dollar each. The campaign kicks off in March 2010, with the first title being Invincible Iron Man #1 – and it will be free, too!
“We’re proud of the books Marvel publishes and now not only are we giving retailers a great way to promote our top collections, but also giving consumers a chance to sample some of our top comics, maybe for the first time and at an unbeatable price,†said David Gabriel, Marvel Senior Vice-President of Sales & Circulation. “Marvel’s Greatest Comics represents one of the best values in comics today and with Free Comic Book Day only months after the initial launch, retailers will want to be well stocked.â€
Sounds like a great way to get new readers, or those who are hesitant to jump into the Marvel universe. Marvel has five titles arriving in March (one per week):
Marvel claims that these are great jumping on points, and at the price point, I might just pick up each one of these.

Marvel Comics has released the cover images and solicitation information for titles arriving in February 2010.

Variety posted, then took down an article, which prompted Marvel to officially announce that Stuart Towsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano have been cast the play The Warriors Three, in the upcoming Kenneth Branagh Thor movie. Good news for those who have been wanting to know who would play the Asgardians who fight alongside the Norse god. Rumors were tossed around the last couple of weeks that everyone from Robert De Niro to Jude Law would be playing the warrior team.

If you make it a habit to read USA Weekend, you may have seen the interview with Chuck star Zachary Levi, who said he had been cast as Fandral in the upcoming Thor movie to be directed by Kenneth Branagh. Unfortunately, NBC extended the third season, which means Zach had to drop out of the flick.
Levi was cast as Fandral, one of Thor’s Warriors Three in the comic book adaptation, and the actor had even been working out especially for the role, but had to walk away when they got the extra pickup. (Levi admits that producers had asked him to audition for the role of the usually beefy God of Thunder, but told them no. “I’m tall and in pretty good shape, but I’m not big and girthy like that,†he says.)

That’s the question Marvel is asking this morning, with the implication that Captain America and Thor will be teaming to save Tony Stark in the upcoming Iron Man #21, arriving December 09, 2009.
