At his blog, writer Kieron Gillen confirmed that the S.W.O.R.D. series from Marvel will be ending with issue 5. The first five issues are a neat little arc, which will collect into an agreeably intense little trade. It was planned so if the worst did happen – and launching a new ongoing in the current market is an enormously risky business – that it would hold together and wouldn’t leave anything dangling. I haven’t changed a panel in 5, basically, and I’m pleased with where I leave the cast. According to Bleeding Cool, Rich Johnston is already reporting of a

Conan begins shooting in the fall. via The Risky Business Blog
Marvel has a new viral campaign going for its cosmic Secret Invasion followup, War of Kings. The company released several banners for fans to put on their websites to promote the issue and to promote their own inner geek. Even though it was only announced a few weeks ago, the first Red Sonja teaser poster was released at San Diego Comic Con. Originally scheduled for 2010, it looks like we might see the movie a year earlier than expected. I’m still not convinced Rose is the best She Devil with a Sword, but if she can bring life to the Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith creation, and do it right, then I’ll see it. via Newsarama
Warner Bros. has announced it will adapt Frank Miller’s Ronin for the big screen, but surprisingly Miller won’t be writing the adaptation. That task has been assigned to scribe Joby Harold, who most recently wrote and directed Awake staring Jessica Alba. “Ronin,” which Miller wrote and drew in the early 1980s, centers on a masterless samurai who is reincarnated in a dystopic near-future New York populated by squatters, factions and mutants. The ronin must try to destroy a demon with a mystic sword, which also is found in New York. Sylvain White has been hired to direct the film. There
