Dark Hero Studios and Pandemonium are teaming to bring the zombie comic book Deadworld, to movie theaters sometime in the future (unless of course you are reading this after the movie is already out… HELLO FUTURE PEOPLE!). “Deadworld” picks up four months after that event, where the Dead overtake the Earth, with humans few and far between. Protag is King Zombie, a Harley-riding corpse who holds a grudge against the survivors who made him an outcast. The film is expected to go into production in 2010. via Variety
One of my favorite Anime films of all time is Hayao Miyazaki’s Laputa: Castle in the Sky. I’m thinking up a theme for the week, and found this lovely piece of art by an artist who calls himself StarryJohn. For those not familiar with Laputa, the wiki has all the answers: According to legend, humans were fascinated with the sky; therefore they created increasingly sophisticated ways of lifting aircraft from the ground. This eventually led to flying cities and fortresses. Over time, the cities came crashing back to the ground, forcing the survivors to live on the ground as before.
The Death of Batman of Earth Prime (or Zur-En-Arrh, we don’t know which, but does it really matter?) Two years ago, we were teased with the promise that Legends Live Forever (not a Queen lyric by the way) – even if they get killed in the process. As you might have already heard, Batman finally dies in this issue, but as always, it is getting there that is the most infuriating. Or is it half the fun? In any case Final Crisis #6 is here and the death of Earth is upon us.
For those concerned that Stargate Atlantis was ending, rejoice that Stargate Universe is beginning. The SGU crew will be lead by Robert Carlyle ( of Transpotting and The Full Monty fame). The 20-episode run is expected to begin shooting in February with a group of fresh faces. Described as edgier, darker and younger-skewing than its predecessors, “SGU” follows a group of soldiers, scientists and civilians left to fend for themselves when forced through a Stargate after their hidden base comes under attack. The survivors, who emerge aboard an ancient ship missing in the far reaches of space, are led by
In an ongoing attempt to draw more readers to online versions of comic books, Marvel is allowing anyone to head over to Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited and read Terry Moore and Humberto Ramos’ first issue of the Runaways for free. The Runaways are back in Los Angeles and trying to keep their status on the down-low, but L.A. isn’t the same city they left it, especially when the sins of their parents come back to haunt them. And if things couldn’t be more dangerous, the few remaining survivors of Karolina’s alien race have come to Earth…and they’re targeting the Runaways
It doesn’t arrive until September, but Marvel has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek at its adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand. The first arc follows the first 19 days of the Captain Trips outbreak that kills 99.4% of the population. As good as the Dark Tower series was, I think The Stand is going to be the King adaptation everyone will want to read.
The Oni Press titles Resurrection has been options by Universal Pictures to be turned into a feature film, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “Resurrection” begins where most other alien invasion movies end, centering on a group of survivors trying to take back control of the planet after an apocalyptic invasion. This is the third title from Oni Press that has been optioned in recent months, and points to Hollywood’s continued interest in comic titles and properties. via Hollywood Reporter
