REVIEW: Superman #712

Spinning out of the events of Infinite Crisis…  Wait a minute. Wasn’t that from like, five years ago? Yes,  faithful Spoilerites, DC Comics is finally telling the tale of what Krypto the super-dog was up to during Infinite Crisis. Take the jump and see if a story that languished in limbo for half a decade earns a spot in your read pile…

TOP TEN: Worst Costume Redesigns

Recently, DC Comics announced they would be “relaunching” their entire line of comics, with new number ones. Along with these new number ones, will be a line-wide redesign for every character. Many of these redesigns have already been criticized, so instead of hating on a bunch of costumes from comic books that haven’t even been published yet, I will be taking a stroll down memory lane, in the hopes of digging up redesigns that should never be forgotten. Join me, will you?

MOVIE: Russell Crowe might be Jor-El

Variety is reporting that Russell Crowe is in talks to play Jor-El in the upcoming Zack Snyder Man or Steel movie to be released by Warner Bros.  If cast, Crowe will join Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Kevin Costner (Johnathan Kent), and Henry Cavill (Superman).

Can Crowe take on the role of Jor-El? Can he pull it off better than Marlon Brando? And in a fight, whose father would win – adoptive father Johnathan Kent, or paternal Jor-El?

DC RELAUNCH: History happens… NOW!

Action Comics is getting the relaunch, with Grant Morrison writing, and Rags Morales providing the art.  Also announced, Superman #1 with George Perez taking on the story, and Jesus Merino on art duties, Supergirl #1 by Michael Green and Mike Johnson, with Mahmud Asra on art, and Superboy #1 by Scott Lobdell with art by R.B. Silva and Rob Lean.

That’s 52 books.  Time for your comments.

ART APPRECIATION MOMENT OF THE DAY: Ryan Ottley

At the NY and Boston comic book conventions, artist Ryan Ottley was busy working on commissions. He recently updated his website with a selection of pieces from the show, and I got a real kick out of his Invincible/Hulk/Superman piece.

On the Next Major Spoilers Podcast: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?

It looks like DC is getting ready to reboot the entire DC Universe (Again), and it got us thinking to one of the previous times DC attempted to clean up the continuity mess created from years of storytelling. This week, the crew takes a look at Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow by Alan Moore, Curt Swan< George Perez, and Kurt Schaffenberger.

Imagine that, somehow, the adventures of Superman were drawing to a close, never to begin again. This is that final tale: one of the most dramatic Superman stories ever, in which the Man of Steel makes a last stand against Lex Luthor, Brainiac, and other foes, with allies including Supergirl and Krypto at his side. Written by Alan Moore, the Hugo-Award Winning author of Watchmen.

TALK BACK: Smallville

The final episode of Smallville has finally aired.  Ten years is a long time for any television series to be on the air, but for a comic book based franchise to last that long is an accomplishment.

What did you think? Now is your time to use the comment section to reflect on ten years of pseudo-Superman and all it created. Did you love it?  Did you hate it? Did you remember things differently than Matthew did earlier today?

AAAANNNNNNDDDDDDD… go.
