Top 300 Comics for December 2008

piechart.jpgDiamond Comic Distributors has released its breakdown of comics sold in December 2008.  As the year ended, Marvel once again rode the gravy train to success capturing almost 50% of the unit share, while DC limped in with a 31% showing.

With the low showing from the other publishers, it is a wonder they’ll survive with Diamonds new minimum order declaration.

The top seller of the month was the closing chapter of the Secret invasion, while the opening chapter to Dark Reign took third place.  DC wedged between the two with Final Crisis #5, and had a pretty decent showing in the number 6 and  spots with its Batman titles.

December saw the release of Dark Horse Comics Buffy the Vampire Slayer #20, which made it into the top 20, but the rest of the top 20 list is dominated by the big two.  The next best seller on the list that is not DC or Marvel came from IDW with its Angel: After the Fall series, which placed 64th, with an estimated 37,000 copies sold.

The complete listing can be found after the jump.

Top 300 Comics for July 2008

piechart.jpgDiamond Comic Distributors has sent Major Spoilers the breakdown of comic book sales for July 2008.  Marvel dominated the month taking seven of the top 10 spots on the list.  DC only had two showings with Batman #678, the Grant Morrison’s R.I.P. storyline, and Justice League of America #23, while Buffy the Vampire Slayer from Dark Horse rounded out the top ten.

For Dark Horse July was a very good month as Buffy moved up the list two spots from number 12 last month.  Both Marvel and DC came close to one another in the Dollar Share category with Marvel taking in 39.11% of the total sales, with DC snagging 30.08%.  Those numbers are quite different when it comes to unit share, with Marvel trouncing everyone else on the list with 43.55% of all comics available.  DC came in second with 32.46%.  Image Comics, IDW Publishing, and Dark Horse rounded out the top five publishers.

Take the jump for the complete listing of the Top 300.  Tomorrow, we’ll examine the Top Trade Paperbacks for the month.

Terminator Omnibus arrives this month

terminatoromnibus1.jpgWith the resurgence of all things Terminator (television series, new movie in the works), it makes sense for Dark Horse to collect the old Terminator issues into one giant Omnibus.

The Terminator Omnibus Volume I includes Terminator Tempest, One Shot, Secondary Objectives, and The Enemy Within. It will be available in retail stores everywhere February 20, 2008 with an SRP of $24.95. The Terminator Omnibus Volume II will follow on March 26.

I would have to rummage through the DrawerBoxes to find those issues, but I seem to remember a couple of the series were pretty good. With Omnibus editions of Aliens, Predator, Indiana Jones, and now Terminator making the Omnibus collections, you can bet the entire 1990s catalog will make it to Omnibus shelves soon.
