Top Cow unveils homage cover variant for Witchblade #128

WB128000COVBPICON.jpg

Following issue #127, things didn’t look too good for Sara Pezzini, and the variant cover to Witchblade #128 might unsettle long term fans.

In this issue of “War of the Witchblades,” both Sara Pezzini and Dani Baptiste are on the ground and it’s uncertain who will rise to reunite and claim the divided Witchblade for herself.  The epic storyline continues to raise the stakes in the battle for the ancient artifact called the Witchblade and promises to dramatically change the landscape of the series by its conclusion.

The regular cover is a take on John Byrne’s Uncanny X-Men #136 by series artist Stjepan Sejic, with the Crisis on Infinite Earths homage cover by Luke Ross.

Top Cow Productions, Inc. revealed today the names of the participating retailers in their “Let Us Win YOU Over” initiative for April and the program would continue the second part of their “War of the Witchblades” storyline – Witchblade #126.
The “Let Us Win YOU Over” initiative is a yearlong campaign by Top Cow Productions to give out free copies of its regular comics to potential fans in the U.S. and Canada through participating comic book stores. Each month, a different set of stores, each month a different free comic. The stores vary by geography and demographics. Top Cow has partnered with ComicsPRO to bring this promotion to fans and all of February’s retailers are members of ComicsPRO.

Witchblade #126 continues the six-part “War of the Witchblades” storyline, which promises to shake the status quo of Witchblade to its foundation. Since the events of First Born, Detective Sara Pezzini and dancer Danielle Baptiste have shared the mystical gauntlet, the Witchblade; but recently cracks have appeared in their relationship. The cracks widen in issue #126 pointing an inevitable battle. Regular writer Ron Marz writes the story with art by ongoing artist Stjepan Sejic. The issue will be in comic shops on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 and normally retails for $2.99.

Top Cow Announces First Ever Witchblade Annual

01picon.jpg

I’ve been reading Top Cow’s Witchblade for years, and it never crossed my mind that the title had never seen an annual.  Top Cow has announced it will release its first Witchblade Annual written by Jay Faerber.

This 40-page epic will include a supernatural detective story, featuring everyone’s favorite Witchblade bearer, Sara Pezzini and her partner, Patrick Gleason. The talented Jay Faerber, writer of Noble Causes and Pilot Season: Urban Myths, delivers this first tale, alongside Top Cow’s very own Eric Basaluda, the innovative artist behind Magdalena and Witchblade/Devi.

“I think Eric’s one of the best guys working in the Top Cow stable and I was thrilled when I found out he was going to be illustrating this story,” explained Faerber in a prepared statment, “I think it really plays to his strengths, and Witchblade fans are going to love what he brings to the table.”

Take the jump to see the two covers by Eric Basaldua and Sami Basri.
