SDCC: Convention to stay in San Diego through 2016

As new contracts get signed, and the San Diego Convention center expands, Comic Con International has announced it has signed a new agreement to keep the popular comic book convention in the city through 2016.

I suppose this is good news, especially for the city of San Diego that sees 130,000 plus attendees attend the convention each year, bringing a crap ton of money and hijinks to the Gas Lap District again, and again, and again. I guess that year will be the big hinge year for the convention organizers and the city as that is the year the convention center expands by 300,000 square feet, which should allow the show to allow even more people into the crowded aisles, the insane movie related panels, and the rows upon rows of merchants selling their wares.

SDCC’10: It’s official Joss Whedon to direct Avengers movie

There have been rumblings and rumors that Joss Whedon was all set to direct the Avengers movie for Marvel, and today he made it official at the Marvel Studios panel.

“The thing I love about it is how completely counter-intuitive it is,” confessed Whedon. “These people should not be in the same room, much less the same team. The very definition of family.”

I think Whedon should do just fine with this project as he’s no stranger to ensemble tales, and this may be his chance to tell his most epic story yet.
