SDCC’11: Vertigo announces Black Orchid Deluxe Edition

Vertigo has announced it plans on releasing Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean’s Black Orchid in a deluxe edition format.

BLACK ORCHID is a haunting exploration of birth, death and renewal. After being viciously murdered, Susan is reborn fully grown as the Black Orchid, a hybrid of plant and human, in order to avenge her own death. Now as this demigoddess attempts to reconcile her human memories and botanical origins, she must also untangle the webs of deception and secrets that led to her murder. Beginning in the cold streets of a heartless metropolis and ending in the lavish heartland of the thriving Amazon, this book takes the reader through a journey of secrets, suffering, and self-rediscovery.

SDCC’11: The Crow flies again

At San Diego Comic-Con today, IDW Publishing announced an all-new series of The Crow comics, beginning in 2012. IDW Publishing will produce several comics series in the universe of James O’Barr’s classic The Crow comics and based on the upcoming feature film. Additionally, IDW will offer collector’s editions of all existing The Crow comics.

SDCC’11: Marvel’s Next Big Thing

Marvel continues to throw down the gauntlet when it comes to trying to best DC at every turn. During Marvel’s Next Big Thing, Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso said of the upcoming Ultimate line, “You’ll have to just buy three books to get one universe and not 52.”

SDCC’11: Cornholio returns to MTV

Mike Judge and MTV have announced that Beavis and Butthead are returning to television.

Judge joked that he brought the show back because he felt like TV was getting too smart. He explained that originally, he ended the series after being burned out, stepping away from the characters in spite of offers for sequels to the movie, Beavis and Butt-Head Do America.

MOVIE: Sin City 2 may shoot later this year

During his panel at the San Diego Comic Con, Robert Rodriguez announced that Frank Miller has indeed completed the script for Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For.  The sequel will not only include an adaptation of the Sin City arc, but two new stories set in the world of Sin City.  Rodriguez revealed that the title for one of them will be The Long Bad Night.

Because Rodriguez basically controls all means of production and shoots most of it on green screen, the director stated that the film could begin shooting as early as later this year.

 

SDCC’11: Robert Rodriguez to bring back Heavy Metal movie and wants your help

Who doesn’t like the Heavy Metal movie from 1981.  Robert Rodriguez has announced he’s picked up the rights to the property and wants to continue to make new animated movies… with your help.

During the Robert Rodriguez panel held Thursday at the San Diego Comic Con, the director/actor/editor/special effects guru/entire crew announced he is making a live action feature based on Frank Frazetta’s Fire and Ice.

SDCC’11: Relativity Media and Atlas team for Voltron movie

Relativity Media has announced that the the studio has optioned the rights for VOltron, with plans to send the property to the big screen.

In Voltron, an elite battle force defends the fate of mankind in the spectacular action adventure. Five young warriors are responsible for the future of the galaxy when they become pilots of a battalion of ultra-high-tech Robot Lions, powerful vessels with the ability to join together to form a fearsome mega-weapon known as “Voltron.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard the news that Voltron was getting a feature film, and each time production seems to stall. This time it looks like there are a number of producers behind the live-action film including Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven, Richard Suckie, and Kickstart Entertainment’s Jason Netter.

The movie is being written by Conan the Barbarian scribe, Thomas Dean Donnelly.

SDCC’11: Well blow me down! Popeye returns to comics in 2012

At San Diego Comic-Con today, IDW Publishing announced another impressive expansion of the company’s partnership with King Features to bring POPEYE back to comic books. IDW’s POPEYE comics will offer all-new adventures with this famous character and his friends, including Olive Oyl, Bluto, Wimpy and Swee’Pea. The monthly POPEYE series will be edited by IDW’s co-founder and chief executive officer, Ted Adams.
