Unbreakable 2? What is M. Night up to?

Even though The Last Airbender hasn’t opened yet, M. Night Shyamalan is already shopping around a new mystery project that already has Bruce Willis attached to it. Gwyneth Paltrow and Bradley Cooper are also rumored to be attached to the movie, but the big question is – WHAT IS HE WORKING ON!?

Willis has been involved in two M. Night productions, with Unbreakable being one that is more open to a sequel than The Sixth Sense. With the rapid growth of superhero movies, how likely is it that we’ll be seeing Unbreakable 2: Electric Boogaloo in theaters?  Would audiences even want to see a followup to the 2000 film?  On first view, Unbreakable wasn’t a favorite of mine, but years later, I have a fondness for what Shyamalan was doing. Considering the director has been working kid friendly movies into his repetoire (Lady in the Water, The Last Airbender), a superhero movie might be just the thing the wunderkind needs.

Would you be interested in Unbreakable 2, or did that ship already sail?

Hank McCoy joins the X-Men

Earlier we mentioned word that Michael Fassbender is in talks to join the X-Men: First Class movie as Magneto, and now it looks like the Matthew Vaughn movie has found Beast.  According to Showbiz 411, Benjamin Walker is up for the role, but there is some question if the thespian will have space open on his dance card as his Broadway work has him tied up with various performances.

Indiana Jones V rumor is just that

After the fan backlash to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, one would think Speilberg and Lucas would be hesitant to jump back on the Indiana Jones franchise so soon.  According to the New Zealand website, Stuff, the fifth Indiana Jones movie would feature Dr. Jones headed to the Bermuda Triangle, presumably to investigate the supernatural mysteries there.

For now, the rumor has proved to be false, according to Frank Marshall, and his Twitter feed.

The rumor about INDY 5 is completely false. Nothing has changed, we are not shooting next year and still in the research phase…

On the flip side, Marshall did confirm that a fifth movie was in the works, or at least in pre-pre-production.

RUMOR: Are you looking at the new Lara Croft?

Showbiz Spy is running a story claiming H’wood insiders are talking that Kim Kardashian really wants to play Lara Croft in the next Tomb Raider movie.

“Kim is wanted to play a far more comic-strip version of Lara which would be shot in 3-D and aimed at a teen audience.”

Now that Megan Fox has been kicked to the curb, we’re going to need someone else to feature every other week on Major Spoilers in the form galleries, rumors, and other mindless stories featuring half-clad female celebutard in an attempt to link-bait the unsuspecting 13-year-old to the site.

What do you think dear Spoilerites?  Would you want to see Kardashian as Lara, or is someone in H’wood just wishing up the wrong wet dream?

RUMOR: Flash movie to showcase Jay Garrick?

If the production information I received moments ago are correct, it looks like Jay Garrick will be featured as The Flash, instead of Wally West or Barry Allen. This is according to information posted in the most recent Production Weekly, that has Geoff Johns and Dan Mazeau writing, with Greg Berianti directing. The trade has Warner Bros. nearing a greenlight for the film.

Considering Johns has a big bulge for Barry Allen, we should probably put the Jay Garrick news in the rumor column, although it wouldn’t surprise me to see a mention of the first speedster somewhere in the film.

What do you think, Spoilerites?  Would you be interested in 1940s Flash story, or will Warner Bros. go with Barry Allen?

Tommy Lee Jones in Captain America

While attending the BAFTA Awards, actress Hayley Atwell, who plays Peggy Carter, in the Captain America: The First Avenger movie, confirmed that Tommy Lee Jones makes an appearance in film.  The only thing we don’t know at the moment is what character Jones will play.  My guess is he will play a MiB who wipes everyone’s minds during the closing act of the film, so no one remembers the Super Soldier program until the launch of The Avengers movie in a couple of years.  That or he plays a hard-ass General who cracks a few heads and gets Steve Rogers into the Super Soldier Program.

Will the Kree-Skrull War take center stage in Avengers movie?

Too many people like to speculate and spread rumors about a movie that is still in the early stages of development, but…

Seems the Twitterverse is a buzz with word that The Avengers movie may feature the Kree-Skrull War, and not the Hulk as misunderstood villain that most expect.  Three times we’ve seen the Hulk take the center stage as the big bad – Avengers #1 (1963), The Ultimates (2002), and in the Ultimate Avengers animated movie (2006), so a deviation from that would be nice, but I wonder if the concept of an interstellar war with Earth in the middle would be too much for movie goers who are not as familiar with the source material.

By Crom! Conan’s father found?

If you are not interested in discovering who will play Conan’s father in the upcoming movie, it’s too late! (sorry Russell)

For the rest of you, word on the Intardwebz has Mickey Rourke donning the fur underwears and teaching Conan the way of Crom in the upcoming Conan movie to be directed by Marcus Nispel.  Rourke has had a huge comeback in films recently starting with his performance in Sin City and moving through The Wrestler and the upcoming Iron Man 2 to name a few.

He’s still in talks according to the source, which means it might happen and it might not, but I wonder how Rourke would be hammering away at some steel and discussing the ways of the world with young Leo Howard?

More Stan’s Back Boom! Clues

Late yesterday, I posted my speculation that the plethora of Stan’s Back ads running on the site are part of a new project between Boom! Studios and Stan Lee.  @DisneyComics (twitter.com/DisneyComics) just tipped me to the fact that Boom! has panel at the upcoming Emerald City ComiCon.

BOOM! STUDIOS/BOOM KIDS! PANEL

Yes, 2009 was a big year for BOOM! Now, find out why 2010 will be even bigger! A not-to-be-missed panel with announcements of earth-shattering proportions. Be there so you can tell your grandkids about this one.

Considering DisneyComics posted the link, one might expect this to be an announcement about Disney comics at Boom!, but if you read between the lines it has Stan Lee written all over it.  Plus Stan Lee is an announced guest at the show, too.

Did I just make your head go boom!?

Stan’s Back ads kick off speculation

You may have noticed a plethora of “Stan’s Back” ads on the Major Spoilers site, and now, all around the comic book Intardwebz.  It kicked off a lot of speculation, some of it by Rich Johnston, that got me thinking of what company Stan “The Man” Lee will be aligning himself with next.  We’ve seen stories of Stan and Archie Comics, Stan and manga, Stan and television, Stan and Disney, but this is something totally different.

With all the players out there wanting a piece of the Stan Lee pie, one has to wonder who is behind it all?

I’ve got an idea, but you’ll have to take the jump to see if I’m a crazy lunatic, or crazy like a fox.

Penelope Cruz checking out Pirates of the Caribbean

I’m sure someone has had a fantasy or two about Penolope Cruz, and for those who think she’d look great in a pirate outfit, might just get it as the actress is in talks to join the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, “Pirates of the Carribbean: on Stranger Tides”.

Depp is reprising his popular role of Captain Jack Sparrow, and while plot details are buried deeper than Blackbeard’s treasure, it is known the tale revolves around the Fountain of Youth.

Anyone interested in seeing this?

Rumor: Director’s selected for Akira movie

News about a live action Akira adaptation have been circulating for nearly two years now, and for a while it looked like the project was completely dead.  Not so, according the website Vulture, who claims it has inside information that the Hughes Brothers (Book of Eli, Menace II Society, From Hell) have been tapped to direct the Leonardo DiCaprio produced movie.

Will it happen?  If film production is progressing, it will be be interesting to see how NeoTokyo will come across on the big screen, and even more interesting will be how they treat the Tetsuo action.
