Tank Girl, meet Star Wars. Princess Leia prepare to be mashed up.
Our Art Appreciation Moments generally focus on the 2D art form, but it can and does encompass everything from 3D works to physical statues that one can pick up and touch, or in the case of the statue that is kicking off this week, a life-sized version of the Tooned Up Princess Leia from Gentle Giant studios.
Figured if I featured Princess Leia in the last installment, better give fans some Han Solo in today’s edition of the Major Spoilers Art Appreciation Moment of the Day. Since it is a holiday weekend, and I’m feeling a little silly in the head (mostly due to having little sleep, being in a car for 6 hours, and putting up with two kids under the age of two), I give you Han Solo Keg-Meister!

Yes, I just might buy that on a t-shirt.
Continuing the Star Wars theme for the back half of the week, I went digging for Princess Leia pictures. Man, you don’t want to do a search for serious Princess Leia art. Bondage Leia, Topless Leia, Naked For No Reason Leia, Leia Getting It On With (INSERT ALIEN/LIGHTSABER/JEDI NAME HERE), and the list goes on and on.
Fortunately, I found this piece by Mark Brooks that he did for the Dallas Comicon.

I know George Lucas made a killing in the 70′s when he managed to secure the merchandising rights for Star Wars properties, that lead to those wonderful Star Wars bedsheets I used to have (sleeping with Princess Leia took on a whole new meaning), but check out the crazy stuff currently being hocked on eBay in an attempt to cash in on the upcoming movie.

You are bidding on a pair of standard size (18 x 28 inches) pillowcase. 100% Cotton with 200 thread count! They are very soft and comfortable since we use the highest quality of garment in the market. 100% Satisfaction guaranteed.
This unlicensed item is going to go fast, because…you know… we all like waking up to a bloody smiling face every morning. Be on the lookout for Rorschach themed bedsheets soon.

What is R2-D2 made of? Audiences will find out, both literally and figuratively, in “Duel of the Droids,” an all-new episode of the hit animated series STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, premiering at 9 p.m. ET/PT Friday, Nov. 14, on Cartoon Network.

The first Robot Chicken: Star Wars DVD was released this week, and the episode earned an Emmy nomination for best animated episode, today Adult Swim has given the green light to Seth Green to follow up the success fo the first with Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II.
Many members of the voice cast from the first special, including original “Star Wars” actors Carrie Fisher and Billy Dee Williams — reprising their roles as Princess Leia and Lando Calrissian, respectively — are back. Also returning are Seth MacFarlane as Emperor Palpatine, Conan O’Brien as Zuckuss, Breckin Meyer as Admiral Ackbar and Boba Fett, and Ahmed Best as Jar Jar Binks. Green will voice several characters, including Ponda Baba. Joining the voice cast this time around is Andy Richter.
Don’t worry about missing the episode before school starts as Adult Swim isn’t planning on releasing the second installment until November 19, 2008.
