Review: Hunter’s Fortune #2

Of all the comics released this week, the one I was most excited about reading first was Hunter’s Fortune by Andrew Cosby and Caleb Monroe. The first issue kicked off a grand treasure hunt that will lead the hero to a vast fortune, and a mystical relic. The issue had all the ingredients to make a great story, and issue two continues to thrill.

Review: Batman/Doc Savage Special #1

If you’ve followed Major Spoilers for any length of time you know two things; 1) I’m a big Doc Savage fan, and 2) I’m a bigger Batman fan.  With DC’s release of Batman/Doc Savage Special #1, one would think I’d be in seventh heaven, on a high no other fanboy could achieve.  You can think whatever you want, that doesn’t necessarily make it so.

First Wave sketchbook has me even more excited for Doc Savage action

The Batman/Doc Savage Special arrives from DC Comics this week, but I really can’t wait to see what DC has planned for Doc and his crew. The issue includes a sketchbook from the upcoming First Wave series, and while I like Phil Noto’s work, I really want to see more of Brian Azzarello’s take on the characters.

Back in the day, James Bama was the man when it came to Doc, but it was always so hard to really get a close look at Monk, Ham, Long Tom, Renny, and Johnny.  Thanks to this peek from The Source, we now know what we can expect to see down the road.  Oddly, if one looks long enough, the Fabulous Five start to look like Wolverine, Tony Stark, Hulk, Phil Sheldon, and my 12th grade science professor.

Boom! Studios has done a great job of telling stories that sit outside the realm of the normal spandex and capes crowd.  More often than not, the company delivers a winner with new titles launched, and it appears they’ve found another winner with Hunter’s Fortune #1.

BCC’08: Image Schedule

With the Baltimore Comic-Con just around the corner (Sept. 26th and 27th at the Baltimore Convention Center), Image Comics has announced its schedule of things for Con goers to look out for, including the first face-to-face between the company’s newest partner Robert Kirkman, and Brian Michael Bendis since Kirkman’s “creator owned” declaration last month.
