batman689PICON.jpg

Batman #689 continues Dick Grayson’s incremental takedown of the Penguin’s many underworld schemes, thanks to tips from an anonymous source.  But like any good would be kingpin, Oswald Copplepot isn’t going to take these attacks lightly.

Review: The Underground

theundergroundpicon.jpg

For most of Battle for the Cowl, readers haven’t been privy to the actual gang warfare between Two-Face, the Penguin, and Black Mask.  In The Underground, The Riddler and Catwoman get a first hand look at what is going on, and for Gotham it isn’t pretty.  It may not even be pretty for those who pick up the issue.

Opus Ends November 2, 2008

17opus.JPGWhen I was younger, I loved Bloom County.  When it ended, I was a tad sad, but thought everything wrapped up nicely.  When Breathed launched Opus, I read it of and on, but never felt it captured the crazy spirit behind Bloom County.  Perhaps it was the Sunday only appearance that left me feeling all “meh” inside.

Berkeley Breathed contacted the Los Angeles Times, announcing to the world, that now Opus will be ending its five year run on November 2, 2008.

“30 years of cartooning to end. I’m destroying the village to save it. Opus would inevitably become a ranting mouthpiece in the coming wicked days, and I respect the other parts of him too much to see that happen. The Michael Moore part of me would kill the part of him that was important to his fans.”

Opus will end with an online contest asking readers to guess the fate of the fan fave penguin.

About that Hoffman and Penguin Rumor

hoffman.jpgSeriously, when Christopher Nolan hasn’t even signed to direct the third film, and while no announcements have been made about Warner even greenlighting another Batman movie, did you really think the reports about Philip Seymour Hoffman playing the Penguin were true?

Really?

Really?

This is one of those silly rumors that have been around for a many years, and it took a quick interview with Hoffman to put it to rest.

“No one has talked to me about it ever — never,” replied Hoffman. “It happened, like, five years ago, too. It was a rumor back then and it’s still a rumor. [laughs] It’s just in the press. It’s funny.”

We reported on this rumor up a couple of years ago, and learned our lesson from it.  There’s a reason why we haven’t been running all those wild rumors lately- because that is exactly what they are – wild rumors, that serve no purpose but to further push nonsense.  Sure, it’s fun to speculate, or to get a really good laugh, but too many surfing the webs believe everything they read.  I would have thought people would have learned their lesson after all those insane Justice League movie rumors IESB was link baiting to all those months ago.  And for those who still think Johnny Depp will play the Riddler and Cher is set for Catwoman, I have a Will Smith Captain America movie script I’d like to sell you.
