While there is no confirmation that the copy of Action Comics #1 that sold yesterday in auction belonged to Nicolas Cage, the comic did bring the seller $2.16 million. The online auction started at $1.00 with a $900,000 reserve, and by the time it was over, someone made a pretty penny for a copy of the first appearance of Superman.
The copy that sold Wednesday evening on ComicConnect was in better condition than the previous most expensive comic (Action Comics #1 which sold for $1.5 million), and if this is indeed Cage’s comic, he made a huge profit as he originally purchased Action Comics #1 for $150,000 in 1997. There’s no word on who purchased the comic, and considering Cage had his copy stolen years ago (and then recovered) I wouldn’t want anyone knowing I have the money sitting around to spend on this title.
Empire has the first official photos from the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance movie, and though I liked the look of the first Ghost Rider pics when they appeared years ago, I really like the smokey burnt Rider we see here.
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance stars Nicolas Cage and is set to arrive in theaters February 22, 2012.

Celebrated as one of the most versatile actors in cinema today, Academy Award®–winner NICOLAS CAGE (Balthazar Blake) has mastered the art of high drama and quirky comedy, while simultaneously conquering the worldwide box office in high-octane action adventure blockbusters. His prolific relationship with Jerry Bruckheimer has produced blockbuster films that have captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” will mark the seventh time that Cage and Bruckheimer have collaborated on a film, following “The Rock,” “Con Air,” “Gone in 60 Seconds,” “National Treasure,” “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” and “G-Force.”
Cage stars as Balthazar Blake in the epic comedy adventure “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.”
Columbia Pictures is in negotiations with Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor to direct Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the sequel to the 2007 Nic Cage Ghost Rider flick. Cage is also in early talks to return to the flaming bike as Johnny Blaze.
There’s no early news on the David Goyer story, or what villains will be involved, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio hopes to be in production by late fall. It’s all well and good, but as was pointed out recently, will it really hurt the franchise if Nicolas Cage doesn’t return as Johnny Blaze? What about Danny Ketch? And since everyone is so down on the first film, why not follow the trend (something Sony is good at) and call this movie Ghost Rider: Reboot?
Here’s a jaw dropping moment for you – Columbia Pictures is actually revving up production on a second Ghost Rider film. David Goyer is in talks to write the script, with the expectation that Nicolas Cage will reprise his role as Johnny Blaze.
The “Ghost Rider” push comes amid a flurry of activity with Marvel characters at Sony, Fox, Universal and Paramount. The movement is necessary for those studios to retain rights to their respective Marvel superheroes.
With this revelation, it makes perfect sense for Columbia to jump on a sequel in order to keep Marvel (and thus Disney) from snagging back the film rights to the property.

If you are in love with Kristen Bell’s voice, then you’ll want to head down to the theater when the CG-animated Astro Boy movie arrives in 2009. Bell, along with Nicolas Cage, Donald Sutherland, Bill Nighy, Freddie Highmore, Nathan Lane, and Eugene Levy will retell Japan’s favorite robot franchise of all time for American audiences.
Why yes, there are more pictures of Ms. Bell after the jump.

Yesterday I posted the lead character in Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass series (Dave Lizewski) has been cast, and today, the news is official with Matthew Vaughn announcing Aaron Johnson will play the dweeb with a death wish.
Also cast in the flick are Lyndsy Fonseca as Dave’s love interest, and Nicolas Cage as a former cop who trains his daughter (Chloe Moretz) to bring down a druglord.
Vaughn and Marv Films partner Kris Thykier are really gathering the cast quickly as they plan for the fall shoot.
