Review: Invincible #50

Or – “These Days, The Government Agencies Always Go Bad…”

Back in the day, the government agent was someone you could trust…  Dick Tracy.  Nick Fury.  King Faraday.  James Bond.  The spies were always honest, and they stopped those with ignoble or antisocial points of view, for the good of America and/or Mother Britain.  In this, the age of irony, we have seen a paradigm shift, where even Nick Fury has admitted that he’s engaged in monstrous behaviors, engaging wars, setting up innocents to be killed, and generally being a jerk.  For a couple of years now, Invincible has been working for Cecil Steadman, a government spook who literally has the influence to do whatever is necessary in the name of truth, justice, and the American way.  There’s no way that *HE*, too is an amoral buttmonkey, right?

Right?

Review: Secret Invasion #3 (of 8)

Or – “Colonel Nick Fury And I Have Sompin’ To Say…  ‘We’re Baaaack!!!’

So.  My cable internet was initially supposed to be on last Friday.  It wasn’t, due to an error on MY part.  So, they scheduled a hookup for Monday… which didn’t happen.  I was, needless to say, less than pleased.  But, I was assured, Wednesday morning I would have internet access.  Wednesday night I returned home to find…  nothing.  I cursed my carrier and made a couple of calls.  I explained that the cable drop was running through two different splitters and some sort of black box from the satellite network, and the next morning I had a technician on site who rewired it.  And that night, another technician was supposed to kill a neighbor’s cable access, and shut mine back off.  My wife (who is not to be trifled with) called them, and read them the full riot act with three part harmony and the 23 8×10 glossy photographs with the circles and the arrows and the paragraph on the back describing each one, and fully explained to them the displeasure of the Peterson household.

My cable is back on.  I have five additional cable hookups, at no charge.  I have a pretty sizable credit on my account, as well as free installation.  But best of all?  My comic reviews are back!  WHOOO!

On the Next Major Spoilers Podcast

ultimates.jpg

This week on the Major Spoilers Podcast (new show debuts Wednesday’s), the panel will take an in depth look at the first run of the Ultimates from Marvel.

A teenager is climbing walls in Manhattan. Mutants are attacking the White House. Nick Fury, head of the elite espionage agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., knows the only way to combat these strange new threats is with a team of his own superhumans. Backed by a billion-dollar budget, Fury recruits Giant Man, the Wasp, Iron Man, Captain America and Thor. And while the team is strong enough to engage in a ferocious battle with the Hulk, will they implode under the weight of their internal conflicts? Rising above their own agendas, the Ultimates forge ahead with the introduction of new allies and face a major global threat.

Mighty Avengers #12

or, oh thank the green fields, they FINALLY brought back Nick!

MIGHTAVN012picon.jpg

I don’t ask for a lot out of my comic books. In reality, it is pretty simple; non-powered heroes kicking the sh!t out of powered bad and good guys alike. I’m one of those who like the Batman plethora of good guys over, say, Green Lantern or Supes.

So, with my excitement level already built up for Marvel’s Secret Invasion, you can imagine how stoked I finally was to see the return of one of my favorite ever super-heroes; Nick Fury!

That’s right boys and girls, the eye-patched ex-director of S.H.I.E.L.D. is finally back, and he is going to kick some serious ass!

Buffy The Vampire Slayer – Season 8 #13

Or – “So Very, Very, VERY Late…”

Unlucky Thirteen…  I want to say that this comic came out last Wednesday, but there’s a chance that it was the week before that.  However, being as it’s Buffy, I wanted to touch on it for all the Buffy fans out there in Spoiler-ville, and also as an avowed fan of Xander Harris.  As the one character in the Buffy universe who never really had a superpower (unless you count the time he had an actual job in Season Six) Xan is the most relatable of the Scoobies for me, and also the one whom I have most in common with.  My best friend in high school didn’t have super-strength, but she was a smokin’ hottie who didn’t realize my crush on her…  Meeeemooorriiiiiiies.
