Recently back on air and much loved show Portlandia has decided to jump into the whole “not a real nerd” Internet debate by running a PSA on the subject in their show. Having never watched the show but assuming I have an understanding of what it’s about by knowing who are involved, I’m assuming this is a tongue-in-cheek moment, but I have been wrong before. It was a Thursday. Check out the video for yourself below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

OPINION: You Are Not a True Geek
![]()
Recently we have seen some controversy with people claiming the “geek” title for themselves, and the backlash it causes when other people feel they don’t deserve it. This issue is more complex than you may think, but there’s a very simple and basic issue at its core. We all like to feel special.
(Oh, real quick though, there’s a spoiler for watchmen in this article… I know it’s weird, but I kind of need it for the wrap. So if you’ve already read watchmen or you reeealy want to read this article then read on)

Major Spoilers Poll of the WeeK: X-Men vs. Legion of Super-Heroes
![]()
We all know everyone is special – a unique snow flake that has no companion (except for the twins). The DC Universe has a bunch of teenagers from the future who use their unique talents to save the universe, while Marvel 616 has a bunch of mutants who band together to save the universe. They are in no way alike – really. Trust us, we’ve got an uber-nerd working on this site, and he’ll tell you.
But even if they were remotely alike, and we could shape the universe to put the Legion of Super-Heroes and the X-Men on a deserted island and let them fight it out in a Battle Royale reality television series, who would come out on top? Would the X-Men win because they have Wolverine, or would it be the Legion because they have a 12th Level Intellect that can figure out the endgame before it happens?
FIGHT!
Frog Pants Studios Brings Heroes for You, to You
Scott Johnson is a very busy guy. When he’s not working as a graphic artist, he runs multiple websites, including his Extra Life web comic, and numerous podcasts with topics that range from geek culture, to World of Warcraft gaming, to a future-tech show. Scott’s latest edition to his growing Frog Pants Studios empire is Heroes for You, a serialized radio drama that takes a humorous look at superheroes.
Scott had a few moments in his busy schedule to chat with us about the upcoming project.
Week in Review for July 18, 2009

The older we get the faster time flies, and this week was no exception as we woke up on Monday, and before we knew it Sunday was already upon is. In all the chaos that is our lives, here’s a recap of the week that was.
- The Intardwebz are full of Trolls, and that is just sad
- I hear there is a comic convention taking place in the upcoming week. Good thing we have you covered.
- Harry Potter movie opens, and takes in $100 million world wide in a single day
- The Major Spoilers Crew plus two sat down to record more episodes of the MSP Dungeons and Dragons Crawl
- DC busted out some zombies that are more into hearts than brains
- Not everyone got a Blackest Night promo ring at their LCS this week, and for that we feel sorry for you.
- If you are going to the convention, and plan on taking pictures, we could use your help
- Four words to make your day – Victoria Slave Leia Cosplay
- Victoria may want to learn the Nerd-Slapping Palm Technique as perfected by the Immortal Iron Fist
- Natalie Portman joins the Thor cast
And that was only the tip of the iceberg. What will this week hold. With San Diego Comic Con hitting, expect it to be a super busy week once again.
Art Appreciation Moment of the Day: Christian Nauck
One of these days I’m going to show you how I find these images, because it is a pretty interesting look at the chaotic rambling of an Intardwebz nerd. Plus I never know where I’m going to end up, or what I’m going to find; like this funny bit from Christian Nauck.

There are two more after the jump.
This Nerd Rocks Out A Capella Style
Four part harmony based on John Williams theme songs with lyrics all about Star Wars. And it’s done by a one guy.
I can see a new Bud Light Salutes commercial now; Here’s to you A Capella John Williams Nerd Who Rips Off Moosebutter. Yes, he really isn’t singing, but is lip synching to the group, Moosebutter. Still, cool song, and nicely done.
True Believer Heads to SciFi
Also revealed at Tuesday night’s upfront presentation is the Rosario Dawson produced pilot, True Believer. Dawson has been hired to produce the pilot episode that could be turned into a series that follows a comic nerd who hires a former superhero to teach him the ropes on fighting crime.
Dawson is exec producer, and her co-author on the Image Comics book “Occult Crimes Task Force,” David Atchinson, will write the script of “Believer” with Matthew Spradlin and Tom Feister.
Fans of the Sin City star shouldn’t get too excited, Dawson isn’t expected to star in the show as of this report.
