MOVIE: MORTAL KOMBAT! (cue music)

While it may not have the most complicated story line (punch-punch-dodge-block-FINISH HIM!), Mortal Kombat has been a pretty heavy hitter in the videogame market since its debut in the early ’90s.  Several movies have been made based on the franchise, but for the life of me I can only remember two… Regardless, the franchise has caught the eye and mind of someone in H’wood and it looks like we’re going to see a brand new Mortal Kombat movie in 2013.

Is this the new Mortal Kombat movie?

If this really is a teaser trailer for a new upcoming Mortal Kombat movie, then sign me the hell up right now!

Check out the stars making appearances – Michael Jai White, Jerri Ryan? My guess this is something for E3 and the upcoming MK game that features a really hard Mature rating. But if this is a movie tease, then once again – SIGN ME THE HELL UP!

Warner Bros. buys Midway Games

Here’s something that is sure to have the Intardwebz a buzzin’ over the Fourth of July weekend – Warner Bros. plopped down $33 million and walked away with most of Midway Games assets, including “Mortal Kombat” “Joust”, and “Spy Hunter”.

This was certainly a bargain for Warner Bros. as it appears no one else was interested in the failing company.  It seems pretty clear that the big reason for picking up the company was to expand upon the Mortal Kombat property, as a possible second MK/DC game looks to be in the works.  Also, with the announcement of the Asteroids video game, I’m sure Warner Bros. is all hot to jump on a movie adaptation of Ms. Pac-Man, Bubbles, Defender, and Joust.  I would have poked fun at Spy Hunter, but I understand that is a movie already in the works for a 2012 release.
