SDCC’09: Applehead Factory brings Mayhem to show

Applehead Factory is sent to bring Mayhem to the San Diego Comic Convention next week.  Only this kind of Mayhem comes in the form of the Messenger of Mayhem messenger bag featuring the company’s Teddy Scares on them.

This year we are actually offering a set of exclusives that include: screen-printed messenger bag, custom sketchbook/journal, custom SDCC 09 patch, blood pen, and Teddy Scares pin. We are offering a limited number of 100 bags, each priced at $30.

For those that “forgot” to bring their own bag to the show, this one might do in a pinch.

Pitt meets The Darkness in August

PTDK001000COVPICON.jpg

Dale Keown’s character, Pitt returns to comics in August as part of The Darkness/Pitt crossover event.  The three-issue series will be written by Paul Jenkins with art by Keown.

The story behind The Darkness/Pitt follows Pitt and his human half-brother Tim on their mission to New York to track down those infected by an alien virus.  But mob boss and current bearer of the mystical power of The Darkness, Jackie Estacado, doesn’t permit anything to go down in his neighborhood unless he knows about it.  When the two forces attract the unwanted attention of the Federal Government, mayhem ensues!

”Darkness/Pitt has been a labor of love but it has been well worth it. As always, I’m excited to work with Dale on Jackie Estacado, a character we’re so familiar with, and I’m gratified he’s allowed me the opportunity to work with characters so near and dear to his heart in Pitt and Tim,” commented writer Jenkins in a prepared statement, “The book looks as beautiful as I always hoped it would, and I trust fans will forgive me for bringing a voice to some of Dale’s most beloved creations.”

Doomsday Comes to DCU Online

01picon_2.jpg

I think this one slipped passed a couple of people, but Sony Online Entertainment and DC have unveiled Doomsday will appear in the upcoming DC Universe Online MMORPG.

Born on the planet Krypton during a time when only the strongest creatures could survive, Doomsday was the result of a rapid natural selection process bred to hate all life. Doomsday’s body is covered with vicious bony spurs that can render even Superman’s skin. His endurance makes him almost impossible to kill. He is the epitome of villainous power and strength. With the ability to regenerate after every battle, Doomsday becomes bigger and stronger; therefore no opponent of his has ever defeated him twice.

Don’t think that Doomsday is a mindless creature destroying everything in his path just because he hates all living things. He can think and reason, which makes him a valuable weapon to anyone seeking to manipulate and control his rampages of mayhem and destruction. But who could possibly want to do such a thing? That’s right: Lex Luthor is obsessed with capturing Doomsday to turn him into the ultimate minion for Luthor’s destructive plans.

The story of when Doomsday attacked Metropolis is a tragic one.  During Doomsday’s rampage, an epic battle erupted on the streets of Metropolis where neither Superman nor Doomsday would back down. Superman knew Doomsday’s rage would fuel the fight driving the battle on as Superman continued to weaken, incurring severe wounds which began to drain his stamina. In the end, the two combatants attacked each other simultaneously with a fatal blow, leaving both lifeless in front of The Daily Planet Building – perfectly situated for a cover story that would shatter the world.

Dinobots Arrive at IDW

MaxDinos01_Cover_Roche_LowRes.jpg

Press Release

(San Diego, December 8, 2008)  Transformers fans have been waiting for the DINOBOTS to get a series of their very own for a long time.  At last, IDW releases the long-awaited, full-fledged modern day debut of the Dinobot team in The Transformers: Maximum Dinobots. The book will be in stores December 10.

Bringing some of the most popular characters from the original cartoon back to life with a fresh take are Transformers uber-scribe Simon Furman, artist Nick Roche, and colorist Josh Burcham, with cover art by Marcelo Matere and Roche.

The Transformers: Maximum Dinobots brings together the team for the first time in thousands of years, but it’s far from a happy reunion. And out to spoil the party further is SCORPONOK and his Machination/HEADMASTER army. But he has two AUTOBOTS hot on his trail in SUNSTREAKER and HOT ROD.

And when all parties collide, expect mayhem, machinations, melee, and, of course, Maximum Dinobots!

The story enhances the rich tapestry of TRANSFORMERS lore for long-time readers, but also is friendly for new readers – anyone can start at Page 1 and not miss a beat. And the first issue arrives just before Christmas on December 10th!

It’s an adventure not to be missed!

Vandervoort Returns to Smallville

vandervoortsm.jpg

For whatever reason, the very mention of Laura Vandervoort on the Major Spoilers website, sends the counter through the stratosphere.  It’s been a couple of months since the Smallville star has been mentioned, so why not get the search engines in a tizzy again?

Vandervoort will reprise her role as Kara on the November 6th episode of Smallville.  Last time we saw her, she was trapped in the Phantom Zone, but if Kal-El can return, why can’t Supergirl?  The episode finds Clark and Lois transported to the Phantom Zone, where they meet Kara who is somehow able to send the duo back to Earth, but not herself.  Who else makes it through?  Zod’s wife for one, so you know mayhem will ensue.

Red Hulk Smash Puny Toys!

redhulktoypicon.jpg

Diamond Select Toys has announced the online retailer Big Bad Toy Store will be the exclusive distributor of the Marvel Select Red Hulk. While the sculpt is similar to the green golliath, the head change and paint job set this figure off from the rest.

Fresh from his debut in Hulk #1, this mysterious mayhem-making menace has just begun his assault on the Gamma-powered individuals of the Marvel Universe and he’s shown no signs of slowing! As with the upcoming Marvel Select Hulk figure, the Red Hulk stands approximately ten inches tall and features multiple points of articulation as well as a rubble-heavy base.

Pre-orders are being accepted now for the figure that will ship in the fall. The figure is a tad pricey at $24, but it also stands 10-inches high.
