When you’ve only got four issues to tell a complete story, some things are going to be left out or cut short due to space restrictions. In Hexed #4, just enough information gets through to make this concluding chapter just rewarding enough.

It’s been a couple months since I had the opportunity to review Hexed #1 from Boom! Studios. I was so thrilled with how the first issue kicked off, I couldn’t wait for the second to arrive. Hexed #2 hits stores this week, and continues the thrill ride set in a world of magic.

This time down, Reqiuem for a bug chick! The great old one who sleeps at R’yleth! It’s night in Hyborea, do you know who your children are? How many punished could the Punisher punish if the puniser could punish punished. Continuity: Bad idea? Or the worst idea? And we have come to chew bubblegum and kick ass…but Rodrigo only brought grape Hubba Bubba!

There really aren’t enough good titles covering the various supernatural realms. Sandman concluded years ago, as did Preacher, and while Buffy the Vampire Slayer continues to rock, Shadowpact got the axe. Cthulhu Tales delivers the chilling supernatural sure to give the reader nightmares, but when it comes to supernatural thriller crime stories, the cupboard is pretty bare. So, when Boom! Studios sent me an advanced copy of Hexed by Michael Alan Nelson with art by Emma Rios, I knew it was worth checking out, even if I am generally wary of titles I know nothing about.
Here then, is your advanced review of Boom! Studios Hexed #1.

Boom! Studios has announced a new mini-series that delves into a story about a thief with supernatural powers. The series is written by Michael Alan Nelson with art by emma Rios.
HEXED follows nineteen-year-old Luci Neves, a.k.a. “Lucifer,” a Brazilian thief who specializes in the otherworldy and the enchanted. Ordinary crooks can rob banks. Lucifer’s the girl you call when you need someone to steal a demon’s collar, a feather from an angel’s wings, or the hinges off the gates of Hell itself. Luci’s life has been plagued by macabre adventures and ethereal encounters, and now that an ill-satisfied client from her past has come back to haunt her…well, there may be no place in any dimension left for her to run!
“This is, honestly, everything I look for in a series and in a first issue,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Mark Waid in a prepared statement. “Michael’s got his craft down better than just about anyone, and his ideas are terrific. Weird and chilling and compellingly disturbing, but terrific. Okay, actually, the boy clearly needs therapy. But HEXED is great.”
