Legendary Pictures confirmed that it was working on a World of Warcraft movie during the San Diego Comic Con, and though we’ve heard a few rumblings about casting, the movie studio has been relatively tight-lipped on everything else. Late yesterday, Legendary Pictures announced a December release date for the flick.
Are monster movies making a come back? Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are hoping so with their latest collaboration Godzilla coming to theaters next year. The official Twitter account for the movie released a new poster and promoted the upcoming Hall H panel earlier today, and you can get those details just after the jump.

Legendary Pictures has appointed veteran comic book editor Bob Schreck to the role of Editor-in-Chief of the newly-formed Legendary Comics, it was announced by Thomas Tull, Legendary’s Chairman and CEO. Schreck joins Legendary Comics from IDW Publishing, and his appointment marks the launch of the new division dedicated to publishing original graphic novels.
I almost had a geek-gasm when I read the headline that director Sam Raimi will direct the World of Warcraft movie.Â Unfortunately, this will not be an animated feature done by the folks at Blizzard.Â Fortunately, the live action feature film will be directed by Army of Darkness creator Sam Raimi.Â Â Raimi will oversee pre-production, and shoot the film after he finishes work on Spider-Man 4.
The “Warcraft” universe features an epic conflict between the Horde and the Alliance. The game has developed a global following since its launch in 1994 and shows no signs of slowing. Its most recent expansion, “Wrath of the Lich King,” sold more than 2.8 million copies in the first day of release and more than 4 million its first month.
The film is being financed through Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. which were the two companies behind Batman: Dark Knight.Â Â No word on a scheduled release date.
