Review: Locke & Key: Head Games #5

Face your fears, and put them in a bottle with that thing that makes you cry

IDW Publishing’s Locke & Key: Head Games continues to move at a brisk pace as the Locke kids continue to explore the powers each of the house’s magic keys bestow up on the wielder.  But what happens when you remove your fears, and the thing you fear the most is right next to you?

When the Inmates Run the Mad House

Long time Major Spoilers friend, Otter took it upon himself to take moments from MSP#94 The Word Association Game Podcast and turn it into this own little comic strip.

Kudos to you sir, kudos to you…

I’m really surprised how Otter was able to capture the pure fatness of my head, and the impression that I have Asian porn stars on the brain all the time (Leanni Lei).  That sir (Miko Lee), is totally not true (Tera Patrick).  And anyone who knows me (Evelyn Lin), knows I dread the tie (Sabrina Maui)… unless Otter is trying to hint (Nautica Thorn), that I’m so fat, my shirt pops open (Teanna Kai).

MySpace Cup o’ Joe Comes to a Close

MyCup17_Wolverine.jpg

Well this is an interesting turn of events.  The weekly conversation with Marvel Editor in Chief Joe Quesada is ending over at Myspace’s Comic Books.

Yeah. This will be our last week here. We didn’t really give any advance warning, ’cause we wanted to go out business-as-usual, and hopefully with a bang as well. The big thing is, right now my schedule is just in…sane with work, and I find myself not being able to find the time and devote myself to this column as I’d like to…

We’ve had a lot of fill-ins that have been great, but it’s more than I’d like in a column we call MyCup o’ “Joe.” Someday I’d like to come back to this—hopefully sooner rather than later—but I’d like to come back to it in a way that I can really devote the proper time to it. So really, I need to thank all the editors and creators that helped and filled in. They were great. And the editors have really, really helped me with the fan questions. I’m still hands-on with all the macro-, more global planning of the Marvel U, but not so much in the fine detail. I usually don’t know specifically what villain will be appearing in issue #87 of a title, so they’ve helped me fill in all the blanks. Kudos to the guys and gals, they’re the best team of editors in the world and I’ll kick anybodies ass who says otherwise.

MySpace Comic Books promises to continue the Marvel coverage with exclusive Marvel Previews during the all-new Marvel Fridays!  That can mean one of two things; 1) MySpace Comic Books will actually have exclusive previews, or 2) the rest of us will have our Marvel previews taken away as Marvel gravitates toward alienating all the other comic websites out there.  Let’s just hope the Marvel goes with #1.

Review: Buckaroo Banzai: Origins

Once again, let’s screw it all up

buckaroooriginspicon.jpg

I give big kudos to Moonstone Books for continuing to bring the adventures of Buckaroo Banzai to the four color world, where fans can lap up the fun and kick assishness that is Team Banzai.  It’s just too bad the company keeps crapping his origin time, and time again.

Review: Detective Comics #851

detective851pcion.jpg

Apparently Batman is dead, but you’d never know it if you’ve been reading Detective Comics for the last year or so.  The plausible exit created by Paul Dini at the end of last issue, leads naturally to the events Denny O’Neil uses in Detective Comics #851.  Batman dead?  Unlikely, so why mourn the loss here?  Instead, O’Neil uses the time to tell a good Detective story.

Major Spoilers Costume Contest 2008: Meet the Entrants

picon01.jpg

Oh boy, did we get a lot of people entering the second annual Major Spoilers Costume Contest.  There were over 50 entries from 20 entrants (yes, some people entered multiple times).  Personally, I think all those who entered the contest deserve kudos for taking the time to make their costume and sending it out for the world to see.  You can tell some of the entrants spent a great deal of time on their costumes, and really get into their work.

Without further ado, take the jump to see all the entrants for this year’s contest.

UPDATE:  Voting is now open!

UPDATE #2:  WINNER ANNOUNCED!

Behold! The Minutemen

minutemen1940picon.jpg

More Watchmen news, this time with the release of the 1940′s prop photo used in the film depicting the Minutemen all dolled up in period gear.

At first I thought this was a cheezy fan photo whipped upped by the “community” to throw off real news about the film, but the more I look at it, the more I believe this is the real deal. All the original gang are featured – including Hooded Justice.

Take the jump for the full shot!
