SNEAK PEEK: Hulk #34

Marvel sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek of Hulk #34 that arrives in June.  Jeff Parker and Carlo Pagulayan whip up the tale of Planet Red Hulk.

“Planet Red Hulk takes our hero further along his voyage of understanding that he is his own greatest enemy when Red is sent into a distant alien culture at war,” said writer Jeff Parker. “It seems to have inspired original Planet Hulk artist Carlo Pagulayan to make the most jaw-dropping art I’ve ever seen him do- and he was already incredible!”

Ed McGuinness returns to Hulk

Marvel has announced artist Ed McGuinness will return to the Hulk title beginning with issue #30.

“Thanks to his amazing run with Jeph Loeb, Ed’s become THE definitive Hulk artist of our time,” said Senior Editor Mark Paniccia. “HULK #30 is pure McGuinness madness, introducing new characters that are bound to be instant classics, and some Hulk villains that fans have been frothing for. All this and the Impossible Man, too.”

According to the company, the issue will find Red Hulk and Green Hulk teaming up to put an end to something bad.  In the press release, Marvel said “The Earth will shake as the COMPOUND HULK makes its shocking debut!”  And by Compound Hulk, I hope they mean in the team-up sense, and not really the merging of the two brutes.

Take the jump to see a sneak peek that Marvel sent our way.

MODOK ditches the butt jet for creepy legs

MODOK is one of those characters that has always freaked me the F**K out.  A giant head, with tiny arms, and a rocket strapped to his ass, are the makings of nightmares that plagued me for years when I was in my early teens.  Now Marvel has cranked the creep factor up to 11 with the reveal that MODOK got a set of spider legs for Christmas thanks to Gabriel Hardman with input from Jeff Parker.

Del Toro to oversee new Hulk television show?

Many were excited over the news that ABC was in the process of bringing The Hulk back to television in an all new series.  The hot rumor this morning might get more people interested in seeing the series as Deadline is reporting that Guillermo Del Toro and David Eick are working on the project together.

While we won’t know the details of the television series just yet, there are already hints of what we might see:

  • The series will be an origin story
  • Banner will be in his mid-twenties (because all super scientists are 25 years old)
  • The Hulk will not be CGI only creation, but a mixture of prosthetics, puppetry and CGI.
  • Del Toro and Eick are sharing scripting duties for the pilot.
  • Del Toro may direct the pilot if he isn’t too busy with other things.

Even though it seems movies get greenlit and go through the production process very quickly, the television series is too early in production for the show to air next fall, but possibly in the fall of 2012 after The Avengers movie is released.

Dale Eaglesham joins The Incredible Hulk in February

Marvel has announced that artist Dale Eaglesham will be joining Greg Pak on The Incredible Hulk in February, as the Hulk smashes his way through the Savage Land in “Planet Savage”.

“I’m having the most fun I’ve had in years right now. I feel like a kid in a candy store – Hulk, KaZar, the Savage Land? It doesn’t get any better than that for me,” says Eaglesham. “A Hulk book means that I get to unabashedly draw musculature, which everyone knows I love. And I get to work with Greg, who is such a good guy, a real team player, and seems as excited about this as I am. These are fun times!”

The Incredible Hulk #623 will have a cover price of $2.99.

Marvel+Disney+ABC=Hulk

According to Deadline ABC is developing a live action Hulk television series.  This has to be good news, right?  And why didn’t this synergy happen sooner?  Disney bought Marvel quite some time ago, and since Disney is the parent company of ABC, the network should be teaming with Marvel projects.

There’s no one really attached to the Hulk project – no writer, no director, no producer – nothing.  So now is as good as time as any to get your wild speculation engine up to full speed and let your imaginations go wild.  What do you want to see in your Hulk television show?

And while you’re at it, what other Marvel properties should get their own television series?  The Hollywood Reporter has Cloak and Dagger getting the treatment for ABC Family, and The Punisher headed to a cable channel.
