Art Appreciation Moment of the Day: Jennyson Allan Borlongan Rosero

Going to try an experiment this week and see where it leads us.  Today’s artist is Jennyson Allan Borlongan Rosero, with this pretty cool X-Men piece.  As the week progresses, I’m going to find an image in his favorites folder and use that for tomorrow’s installment. Then a favorite from that artist and so on until we reach some strange dead end or it circles back around.

Ah Deviant Art, you rascal.

Green Hornet begins shooting in August, Stephen Chow still involved

After nearly a year in Pre-Pro Hell, Seth Rogen’s green hornet is finally going before the lens next month.  At one point Stephen Chow was set to direct and play Kato, but then for reasons unknown to the Intardwebz community, Chow stepped down from directing duties.  The good news is, he is still in for playing the Green Hornet’s sidekick.

Pursued by police as a wanted criminal, the masked vigilante Green Hornet is actually Britt Reid, owner and publisher of muckraking journal the Daily  Sentinel. Reid’s dual identity is known only to his secretary and the city district attorney.

The film now has a July 9, 2010 release date.

Art Appreciation Moment of the Day: Matt Rhodes

John_Carter_of_Mars_by_MattRhodesPicon.jpg

With the news about John Carter of Mars finally getting out of pre-pro hell and moving into the production stage, my Intardwebz wandering led me down the John Carter path to discover this nice piece by Matt Rhodes.  If there was going to be an animated version of John Carter (there was a test bit you can find), then I would hope the studio would go for a look like this one.

Live action Akira a no go

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that the Leonardo DiCaprio produced  live action version of Akira has died a slow death in Pre-Pro Hell.

“Akira” originated in 1988 as a manga and then as an animated film co-written and directed by Katsuhiro Otomo. The story was set in a neon-lit futuristic post-nuclear war “New Tokyo” in 2019 where a teen biker gang member is subjected to a government experiment which unleashes his latent powers. The gang’s leader must find a way to stop the ensuing swathe of destruction.

The film was to be a two-part film of epic proportions, but unless Warner Bros. and Appian Way can get their act together, don’t expect to see this tale appear on the screen anytime soon.

Rumor: Phil Jimenez on Astonishing X-Men

Word is spreading through the blogosphere that Phil Jimenez is stepping in to replace artist Simone Bianchi on the Astonishing X-Men series written by Warren Ellis.  It’s interesting if it is true, as Simone is a really dedicated artist who does some pretty “astonishing” art.

But what the hell do I know if this is true, the story first appeared on Superpouvoir.com, which is a French website, and I don’t speak French, plus the story has been removed from the site.  We’ll find out more on Tuesday at 12:00 EDT, right here on this site, but you’ll have to do some math and pay careful attention to “the post” to see if this is the real deal or not.

The Phantom Wears Velcro Sneakers

phantom2picon.jpg

So… uh… the kids over at the SciFi (SyFy) Wire have released a sneak peek at the costume design for the channel’s update to the classic comic strip character The Phantom.

The Phantom stars Ryan Carnes (Desperate Housewives, Doctor Who) as the title hero and as his alter ego, Chris Walker, in this re-imagined version of the classic comic strip, which has been updated to the present day.

Well there’s purple in the costume, but it reminds me a lot more of the costume design seen in Smallville than a classic hero from 1936.

HUMOR: Blow-Up Toy Gets Christian Homophobes All Weirded Out

blow_up_wolverine.jpg

Yeah, when you first see the picture you’re probably all “What The F?!”, which is probably followed by a lot of laughter.  The Christian hardcore don’t find it funny at all, and think Marvel is promoting a gay agenda.

It looks like our homo supporting friends over at Marvel have created a new toy to encourage young boys to perform mouth to mouth in a non holy way to a blow up toys twiddle rompus!

We might as well line our children up and burn them ourselves! If we make these types of devil pleasing acts ok they will all be burning in the fire lakes anyways!

Wow, it’s no wonder I’m agnostic.  I seriously doubt the big wigs at Marvel are sitting around wasting time trying to figure out subliminal ways of sending the youth of the world to Hell – I mean have you seen Emma Frost lately?

Sometimes we all need to take a deep breath, laugh, and move on with our lives.

Ultimate X-Men and Ultimate Fantastic Four Series Conclude

Ultimatum_NoMore_UltimateFFUltimateXMen.jpg

February 18, 2009 will wrap up the Ultimate X-Men series with issue #100.  The same day sees the end of Ultimate Fantastic Four which had a mildly interesting 60-issue run.  The end of the series ties directly into Ultimatum from Marvel, which seems to be hell-bent on destroying the Ultimate Universe that spawned the whole Marvel Zomibe craze.  I’ve done a little digging, but after the last round of solicitations from Marvel, I’m more convinced all of Ultimate U is ending when Ultimate Spider-Man reaches issue #133.
