Review: Green Lantern #48
Or – “Didn’t Saint Walker Used To Work For Jabba The Hutt?”

Earlier this week, I took a look at Blackest Night #5, in which the seven primary bearers of the emotional spectrum came together to try and stop Nekron’s evil Black Lantern Corps. You’ll have to check out that review for more details, but here’s the story that explains how Atrocitus, Larfleeze, Sinestro, Hal Jordan, Saint Walker, Indigo-1 and Carol Ferris became the (barely) coherent collection of ring-bearers that I have dubbed The Rainbow Coalition…
Interview: Cosplaying Heroes and Villains
![]()
At the recent Wizard World Philadelphia convention (which took place this past June) there was a particular cosplayer getting an enormous amount of attention and upon laying eyes on him, it was easy to see why. With his tailored purple suit, white makeup and sly grin it looked as if The Joker had sprung to life from Batman: The Animated Series. It’s easy to say that he was a big hit among those attending the con to the point that people were lining up and taking turns to be photographed with him.
Fast forward three months later and I stumbled upon the cosplayers online profile. His name is Paul and I discovered that he has a very impressive collection of costumes. After witnessing his impact on the convention crowd and being highly interested in him myself, I took this opportunity to interview him for Major Spoilers about the hobby of cosplay.
One Ring to Rule Them All… and in the Blackest Night Bind Them

Here’s a look at Hal Jordan sporting the costumes and rings of the other Lantern Corps. The action figures were exclusive only to the San Diego Comic Con, and attendees could only buy two per day, which means they’re up on eBay now, with very high asking prices. Right now, one complete autographed set is going for $450.
Thanks to Gilbert for the tip!
Green Lantern game in the works

Double Helix and Warner Bros. have teamed up to develop a Green Lantern video game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms. This sounds like a perfect build up to the Green Lantern movie set to debut in 2011. With Ryan Reynolds signed as Hal Jordan, I wouldn’t be surprised if his voice appeared in the game.
There’s no confirmation from Warner Bros. on this news, so we’ll have to file it under rumors for now. Of course that news may change during the flurry of announcements from the San Diego Comic Con.

Art Appreciation Moment of the Day: Joe Dodd
For some reason, I’m in a Green Lantern mood today, and stumbled across this sketch by Joe Dodd.

I like the classic Hal Jordan pose, and love that the green is a really dark green instead of the flashy neon color that seems to be used most often.
Ryan Reynolds is Green Lantern

After this morning’s buzz that Justin Timberlake was suiting up for Green Lantern tryouts, Variety is reporting this evening that Ryan Reynolds has been cast as Hal Jordan in the upcoming movie.
Warners and Campbell chose Reynolds, who vied for the superhero role along with “The Hangover†star Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. The momentum built for Reynolds in the last week, as he was the only actor whose option was extended.
Those that were afraid that Timberlake would be flying around can rest easy, while the rest of you have the daunting task of voicing your opinions below.
SDCC’09: Green Lantern, First Flight debuts at show
Green Lantern: First Flight, the highly-anticipated fifth entry in the popular DVD series of DC Universe animated original PG-13 movies, will have its world premiere at Comic-Con in San Diego on Thursday, July 23, 2009.
More than 4,000 fans will have the opportunity to see Green Lantern: First Flight on the big screen five days before the latest DC Universe film is distributed on DVD and Blu-Ray™ Hi-Def. The film will premiere in the San Diego Convention Center’s Ballroom 20 at 8:00 p.m.
A panel comprised of filmmakers and voice cast will be presented on the following day, Friday, July 24. Details on that panel and its participants will be announced next week.
Green Lantern fan trailer rocks
We talked about Fan Films on one of the previous Major Spoilers Podcasts, and I’m always amazed at what fans can put together when given enough time and passion.
This trailer for a never to be made Green Lantern film has Nathan Fillion playing Hal Jordan, and if the final movie is half as good as this trailer, then I’ll be happy.
Take the jump for a breakdown of shots.
Green Lantern Lands Early

(click for super-sized version - if you dare)
Warner Home Entertainment has announced it is changing the street date for the DC Universe Animated Green Lantern: First Flight Blu-Ray and DVD to July 28, 2009.
Green Lantern: First Flight finds Hal Jordan recruited to join the Green Lantern Corps and placed under the supervision of respected senior Lantern Sinestro. The earthling soon discovers his mentor is actually the central figure in a secret conspiracy that threatens the philosophies, traditions and hierarchy of the entire Green Lantern Corps. Hal must quickly hone his newfound powers and combat the treasonous Lanterns within the ranks to maintain order in the universe.
There’s something like three hours of bonus material in the collection, which is pretty cool, and makes the $24.99 price tag for the Blu-Ray version, well worth it. After New Frontier, Green Lantern is the movie I am most anticipating in animated form.
Who else is picking this up on day of release?
MSP#90: After the Weasel War of 1149 Podcast

All this, and Mrs. Frisby slaps down an injunction, as episode ninety leaps off the starting line, burns rubber through the chicane, leaps across the median, and into your hearts and minds… El podcast de los Alerones Principal está en el aire!
