A number of sources are reporting that Benicio Del Toro has been hired for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie from Marvel Studios.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Doctor Who star, Karen Gillan isn’t done traveling through the universe, as the trade claims the actress has joined Guardians of the Galaxy cast.
Marvel has announced that Paolo Rivera has been tapped to create the variant cover for Guardians of the Galaxy #2 by Brian Michael Bendis, Steve McNiven and Sara Pichelli.
The Guardians of the Galaxy are one of those teams that have a very passionate and loyal fan base that basically single handily drive their sales, rarely picking up new readers along the way. They seem to have enough appeal to warrant an upcoming movie, however, so obviously someone at Marvel thinks they can appeal to a larger audience. It was most likely the intent, as with the rest of Marvel NOW, to try to capitalize on this potential with the new Guardians of the Galaxy #1. Does it succeed? Does it fail? Marvel has announced that it is releasing a series of Guardians of the Galaxy trading cards to coincide with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy #1 that arrives in March.
